I would hate those northern fuckers to have our money! Would probably spunk it all on pies and flat caps!

We are getting an enormous German who will scare the shit out of Drogba and Kevin Davis!

Yeah it's not a coincidence we have signed Mertesacker, Bremen captain, natural leader, 75 caps for Germany, Park Chu Young, South Korea captain, 53 caps, Andre Santos, 22 caps.

Experience.

Agreed

Most of our existing CBs would have ducked this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVzwaJGxdQ0

Obviously you can never be certain how a signing will turn out but if we are realistically not going to get Pique, Vidic, Kompany or Lucio then Mertesacker is exactly the sort of defender we should be buying; ever present in reaching WC 06 and '10 semi finals and Euro 08 final, CL and top league experience.

Yes Cahill would also have been a good signing and has prem experience, but he's barely played at the very highest level (internationals/CL) and Bundesliga players generally adapt well to the Prem (Kompany, Ballack, Berbatov etc).

Finally, a signing to be happy about. It might not absolve Wenger of the shit we have endured from him, but finally someone to bolster the spine of the side.

Note of caution peeps. Nothing on Pravda yet apart from Traore to QPR. Please stop counting those unhatched chickens.

So do I but at least if we appear to have some foundation of a good team it might be easier to entice a good manager to take over - can you imagine any manager worth his salt taking over this team that is full of shit players at the mo ? :(

I'm still not sure about the Chu Young signing. :?

Wenger said he wanted a Striker...is this it? not in a bad way but he knew that Billy is (should be) going so is this the striker.
£3M is not bad business especially given the low fee we'd recoup that commercially.
So I'm wondering IS the Chu young just a good bit of Commercial business? :?

Wenger hasn't got his marquee signing yet.....11th hour bid for Benzema?

Rumours also doing the rounds that we would only have him for 2 years max as he has to start 2 years national service by the time he is 28 (he is 26yo at the mo)???

Excately my point.
Wenger usually like a signing to have a future sell-on value. Young won't.

Yeah but it's a no brainer because we'll cover his cost in shirt sales in the far east within the first season. Let alone all the new gooners we'll create over there for future seasons merchandise etc. Plus we get a fairly decent squad player to call upon if necessary. Agreed though, he doesn't exactly inspire as a first choice striker.
