The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Problem with Vermaelen transfer is that we want a player plus cash deal but their players are all shit and we don't want any of em.. Except for Mata, but we could of course already field a full team of lightweight attacking midfielders. I guess Rooney might make the bench/start the occasional thuggish away game up in Stoke or Sunderland etc

Wouldn't be surprised to see Feliani come the other way, suits both clubs and would give Wenger an option in midfield.

Pretty sure Wenger went in for him on deadline day but came away with Arteta so he must like him.

On Hummels to Manure, Klopp was asked about any truth in the story and his reply was and I quote "if that isn't a bullshit story, then I'll eat a broomstick".

Transfer News: Liverpool set to sign Javier Manquillo on loan from Atletico Madrid

If indeed we were in for him why have we let this happen? What's wrong with our negotiators (other than they're wankers) ?
Why do we need him? We have Debuchy and Jenko.
That's what I thought too at first but read that we might loan Jenkinson out for a season and so would need a back up.
From what I can gather Manquillo isn't a bad player and is quick.

In fairness to manure they have recognised an area that they are very weak and need quality purchases, and they are attempting to tackle that.
Contrast that to the victims who seem to be hoovering up every midfielder and winger in world football, despite the fact that they defence is woeful and probably cost them the league title last season

Smalling would be a good back up CB imo. He's a talented defender who hasn't progressed because he's been shafted to RB when he clearly is not any good out there.

Other decent ManUre players include Shaw, De Gea, Judas of course and Januzaj is an interesting talent. Fuck all else though.

And we are bound to be after one of cleverly (I will shoot myself if we sign him), phil jones, nani or carrick
Personally I think that januzaj is just the latest in the line of over-hyped young players, who the media wanc themselves silly over
