THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I'm one of the more pro-Wenger posters here and I very rarely listen to post-match interviews
baffles me that at any WOB would...

Most papers are saying 'closed door' 'secret' meetings - which suggests AW had no input....
They're basically admitting they don't trust AW to do his fucking job. Encouraging to hear the players doing it themselves instead of being the apathetic shitouts they used to be.

Dear lord, really, lets be fuckin honest here mate, they are PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYERS who have been coached at a top level since they were 5 fuckin years old, if they haven't grasped fuckin defending by now they never will do.

And to suggest that some little secret meeting changed anything is absolutely unbelievable.

I can hear the conversation now "per I think you were caught a bit square there mate"

"Yes you are correct thomas, but you didn't cover round the back either like would be expected"

I would imagine that Wenger has changed his gung ho approach to stop leaking goals, simple as that.

They had to man up and tell Monreal to stop hoofing it into row Z. Wenger's defenders don't do that. :?

I'm not sure what your trying to say here mate, OF COURSE they can defend. Look at man city away this season. They are top players and I truly believe Per and Kos could be a firm cb partnership for years but even top players need coaching. If they aren't getting the pressure from above them then they will loose their focus and commitment.

Wenger has messed up my son! Szczesny Snr sticks boot into Arsenal boss for making keeper 'scapegoat' for struggles.

Maciej Szczesny - who won seven caps for Poland and helped Legia Warsaw reach the quarter-finals of the 1995-96 Champions League - feels Wenger needs to look at how he handled his son, who has been hampered by a series of niggling injury problems.

In an interview with the leading Polish sport daily paper Przeglad Sportowy, Szczesny Snr said: 'Wenger already started to look for the scapegoat. It is not the way the boss should behave.

'Wojciech has had two serious injuries. He played with one in April and May (last year). He shouldn't have agreed to play that time but the coach insisted.

'Wojciech did not train the whole week and then had a warm up on Friday and played the match on Saturday. He was naturally more susceptible to minor injuries and his form was going down.

'Wenger was playing with the young man's good health and Wojciech agreed foolishly.

'In my opinion Mr Wenger messed up a lot in April and May. I don't blame the young man who went along with his coach, his current lack of form is a result of those two months.

'Then in August there was a foot (ankle) injury after which he played almost instantly.

'After seven weeks out Wojciech trained for just seven days and played the match. How on earth can he be on his highest form?'

Szczesny Snr is confident his son will soon establish himself as the Arsenal No 1 again.

'This last period has not been successful for Wojciech, the fact that Arsene Wenger did not take him to Munich shows something,' he added.

'However, I think my son can be the No 1 (Arsenal) keeper over 10 years, he just needs to come back to form and then a situation where we can stop to wonder who will stand between the posts.'

Quite interesting if true but tbh I don't really disagree with encouraging him to play through a minor injury at the back end of last season as opposed to playing Flappy or Comedy Al. Szczesny hasn't played consistently well for over a year now imo so blaming it on a niggling injury over a short period is fucking bollocks (especially when imo it's been his decision making at the root of most of his problems).

Just what we need - another mouthy dad after Bendtner's (easy to see where he gets this idea he's the world's best from) and van Judas' (he won't leave Arsenal and certainly not to go to another English club).

I have a solution why he keeps getting ankle injuries, it's because when he clears a backpass upfield he takes a lump of turf out before he strikes the ball, it's not golf chesney  :?
