The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Ospina is on his way and we're after a DM.
How do you know this? Its likely just media talk, just like higuain who you were convinced about.

I'm afraid it looks like we are done bar ospina, so long as verm doesn't leave.

Yet another window of us doing the bare minimum in signings. Sanchez should be enough to get 4th but that's it.

All this bollox about finally having the constraints lifted financially. Well prove it arsenal. Go out and offer what can't be refused for a class dm like bender and sign a top out and out striker.

Christ. Don't want Carrick, Jones, Cleverley or big-fish-in-small-pond-one-season-wonder-FAILlaini. Fuck no. :|

Smalling? Very very average on a good day. As back up to Kos and Mert? hmmm... possibly. :rubchin:

I think we really should stick it to Manure for Tommy V. He is excellent cover for Kos and Mert and tbh is probably good enough to be starting (when he's on form anyway). They need a decent CH like a prossie needs a vagina so we should really mug them on this one.

Of course we won't though.

Still waiting for a DM, still desperately need a world class striker, still need a quality CB. Until all of those are signed then we are not going to challenge. This doesn't count the players that might leave and if they do then we will be no better off than last season.

If we giving all our germans the first month of the season off, we shouldnt bother buying any more of them

i just hope (yes, silly I know ..but ! :? ) wenker manages to sign someone before the window closes....maybe he is in secret talks with a secret player that is so secret even his agent is secret and so not even wenger himself knows who the player is...but you can gaurantee a couple of years down the line...he will trot out the usual 'we nearly signed that player'....

They all have the option of coming back early, like Wilshire has.

More concerts might be coming :barscarf:

The club tried to plead poverty by saying we needed to be able to host more concerts to be able to compete with Man United's profit generation. Granted I'm not a planning expert but an entity worth not much under a billion pounds pleading poverty doesn't seem likely to address the practical arguments of local residents and councillors

But, having given them the time off, is it reasonable to expect them to return early ? Personally I would think that it is one of those things where the players chat and decide that they either all return early or none return early - I suspect BFG might want to come back early but ozil maybe not so much

I see that eisfeld has joined fulham on a permanent deal - it's a pity as I thought that he looked a real prospect but now we can just add him to the long list of failures that came through our academy :(

I'm very relaxed/content at the moment, I mean, we've already signed 3 players (Ospina announcement pending) before August - when was the last time we've done so much this early?

Also, I'm resigned to the fact we're not getting another striker as Wenger's more or less confirmed this. In all likelihood, that means we're focusing solely on bringing in a DM (hopefully) and the windows still open for over a month.

FFS! Him and Akpom were the two young players that really stood out....mind you now we have an abundance of creative mid-fielders and one aged defensive mid-fielder it isn't surprising he has looked elsewhere...I wish him well - no doubt at some point in the future he will score the winner for the opposing team in the last minute and knock us out of one of the competitions...

In fairness, we always sign players pretty early in the window. People just generally aren't impressed with WHO we sign.

I agree though, we have plenty of time to focus on bulking up in other positions.....just as long as nobody else leaves.
