As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
We are all different and of course have different opinions (that translates into I am right and clearly ye are all wrong ) but I cannot concur with some of the criticisms of players today -
Personally I thought clichy, arshavin, nasri and sagna were our best players by a country mile and were the only ones that looked like creating anything for the team.
On the other hand song is shown yet again that he is just a poor mans essien, diaby utter shit and still loses possession too cheap, our centre backs are pussycats and chamakh is developing a nasty case of eboueitis...he is falling over waaaay too easily and too often
Flappy did well today (except one flap in the first half) and should hold his place when the wonderful ( ) almunia returns but in wengerworld who knows what the fcuk will happen

The free-kick was just a hit and hope for fuck sakes, Alex never means to score - just look at his face after it goes in. But saying that when was the last time Van Perise scored a freekick?

see bold parts and put together, reason why he's being ridiculed but apart from that, he did ok

Just seemed same old story to me and herein lies the problem. We have played Chelsea using the exact same tactics for the past 10 games and where has it got us?
For me, Fabianski played well. He could have done better with the goal, as he actually moves away from the near post which creates the space for the goal. Other than that he did have a decent game.
Clichy seems to have lost it. I thought he was very poor in both defence and attack today.
Koscielny, I thought had a solid game and I don't think either of our centrebacks were bullied.
Squillaci made two big errors whilst in possession which were crucial as we invited Chelsea to attack us.
Sagna was also poor. He seemed to attack and leave gaps in back except when we most needed him. Also he seemed to lack pace which is worrying as this was always one of his best attributes. Was his the pass the one that sold Kos out and led to Alex's free kick?
Song for me was woeful. He never seemed to make a good tackle and consistently fouled players giving away free kicks in dangerous areas. He also failed completely to hold up play on the counter-attack, one of his primary jobs.
Diaby was his frustrating usual self. I thought he looked strong on the ball today, but he doesn't have instinct, and more often than not allowed Chelsea to get back in numbers before distributing the ball. It's almost as if he wants to beat 8 men for a goal to be satisfactory enough.
Wilsere tired later on, but did play well early on. For me he did shun shooting opportunities in favour of that next pass which seems to be the Arsenal way at the moment.
Arshavin was too greedy in possession and with the exception of one shot, was wasteful when he had the ball. Also lacked instinct when in the box and could have had two goals if he wasn't so static.
Nasri for me was our best player. Made loads of good runs and tried all he could to open up the Chelsea defence.
Chamakh, poor game. Needs to put his headers on target. Also had a a lead boot on today. His first touch was shocking.
Our subs made little or no impact on the game and for me we didn't make changes early enough.
People commented on here that Mikel stays back with the defence but I felt both Essien and Ramires did the same. I heard some Chelsea fan on 606 say they dominated the midfield but this was simply not the case they did however dominate the 5 yards outside of the penalty area and broke with pace, power and most importantly desire to get a shot on goal and this ultimately is what we didn't do.
The worst part for me is, it didn't hurt like it should do, as it used to do, because basically now I come to expect a defeat in the big away matches and fully anticipate us to huff and puff, play some nice football but not put away our chances and then end up paying for it.
From going into matches a few years ago full of belief and confidence in the team it is almost the complete opposite, I now expect them to concede in the last minute to drop points (sunderland , spuds, liverpool) to be so complacent that its ok to be below par against "little teams" then we get turned over (hull, wba, wigan)
It has been going on for too long for it to suddenly self correct, either the players are not good enough, not motivated enough or are mentally not tough enough to be able to fix it themselves and Arsene's blind insistance that they are a percent away, going to win it this season bla bla bla just doesn't ring true.
Wasn't the worst performance ever but in reality I never felt we would score, at least until Chamak was played in in between the two central defenders and for some reason he tried a ridiculous flick to nobody. The ball was cleared and they eventually got the free which ended the game.
Arshavin has become so frustrating, time and time again he loses the ball, we know he has quality but I fear we may never see it again in an Arsenal shirt. We played the ball in front of Chelsea too much and never tried to get behind them. They enjoyed that, soaked it and then hurt us. As I said we weren't going to score but they were. On the plus side, Jack again showed his quality, I thought Sagna improved so much on last week, and Nasri had his moments. I also didn't think Diaby was as poor as some other posters.
Song gives himself too much to do by constantly getting the wrong side of his man. Fabianski had a decent game. Vela will never get goals in those type of games. Great when you are a few goals ahead at exploiting space, but not as a Saviour in big games.
Only just started to calm down. Sadly my Dad has been a Chelsea fan for all his life so sadly have to put up with stick re the result - although he did say the match was pretty open, sadly there's also a fan at work who won't shut up about it - although he knows nothing pre 2004 Chelsea - glory hunter?
At the start of the day I thought it would be much worse and we started the match strongly but AA23 was far too selfish and apart from that 1 sexcellent shot didn't do too much, Song kept messing up and is going backwards this year - we need a back up player to push and motivate him! Flappy played ok but as always you know he's going to screw up. Leading upto the match Sky's adverts showed Kanu, Winterburn etc and it made me sad to see the lack of desire we have with current players.
Ah well, still got record profits remember, hard ro look for players to sign when all that money needs counting Maybe I can beat Chelsae on Fifa
