The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Love it, last year it was Ramsey this year Wilshire.

What is it with you oirish gooners. Why dont we start looking at shitty paddy arsenal players. The first in a very long line is Eddie McGoldrick !

Ramsey & Songs development was quite shocking, particularly the latter, I remember the 08/09 season and he couldn't pass 5 yards. Next season he is tormenting Chelsea. Rambo was so consistently average I just thought he would stay average forever.

Wilshere has shown some real talent but that actually makes me more worried ironically.

Fixed that for you, and TBH thats one of the cruxes, I dont think hes v bright and thus not really tactically astute to play that role :?
to be fair, wonga probably tells him to 'just go out and play'.

i'm not sure its the discipline or intelligence, or he just doesn't want to be the holding player - its clear he wanted the Fabregas, Ozil, CAZ role as the false #10. because thats the "hero" role.

but jack can't shoot either. tbh we looked more balanced in CM without him last run in.

I don't see him as "the quiet man" protecting the back four and passing it to Rambo or Ox to springboard the attack like Petit, Vieira, Edu, flamini and Gilberto did and Paul Davis did before them.

As Caz doesn't want to track back either, any midfield four with Caz and Jack behind Ozil is very very lightweight imho, and all the attacking talent of Walcott (if fit), Ox, Ozil , Dirty and Rambo will be wasted if we continue to be 3-0 down in 20 mins as against city, liverpool and the chavs.

the 'screening' DM is the lynchpin of any good team - helping out the wide players to protect the full backs, and cutting out balls through the middle along with a B2B CM to protect the CB's.

Its a HUGE mistake for wonga to put his faith in either Jack or Diaby. :banghead:

a world class holding DM should be our sole priority now. failure to do that spells doom again against the top clubs as we will not be able to control games.

why wonga doesn't or won't get this beggars belief.

I think he looked best when he was on the right wing cutting in.

Wilshere at DM is just too big a risk, can't see it working but at most should be confined to experiments in friendlies, Beer Cup games, injury-hit games and possibly the odd piss-easy home fixture. Set up with him as the solution to our DM problems and our title challenge is pretty much over before it's got going.

Apart from the fact he chases the ball around midfield like a dog and takes far too many luxuries in possession, even ignoring the fact that he is petulant and physically will struggle in the role, the stark reality is he's not going to stay fit for long enough periods to actually learn his craft there in any event.

Regarding Vorm he could have walked into a good side as #1 last year, sad that he is resigned to benchwarming at the Scum. As a club Swansea revel in having a balanced squad whereby seemingly key players can be sold for serious money and replaced by a far cheaper signing or existing squad depth. They could have sold Vorm and Michu last summer for about £25m but they gambled on trying to build something more - it backfired as both had little impact over the season and it ultimately cost Laudrup his job.

I was actually pretty fucked off that we didn't sign Lloris, especially with Szczesny was dire for the second half of 2011-12 and had another shit season the first year Lloris was here, exacerbated by his infuriating arrogance. But to be fair Szczesny had a great season last year (although form dipped slightly towards the end) and Lloris has a worrying propensity for charging out of his box needlessly. I'm still not convinced by Szczesny but he improved hugely last year and has the potential to be a great player for this club. Either way Wenger sent out a message by loaning Viviano as 3rd-choice last year, rumours that we are going to sign Casillas are so ridiculous.

wilshere is a twat. he may be one of our own, but he needs to sort his game and himself out. hes done nothing in the game apart from get worse and his constant non stop whinging to refs and lying on the floor after trying and failing to get a free kick seriously annoy a lot of gooners.

if hes the answer to our dm problem 4th could be a struggle again what with artetas legs being a year older.
