Chants Would Be A Fine Thing

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

In the song 'we all follow the arsenal' why do we shout 'over land and sea and leicester' ??

I dont understand the leicester bit?!?!

any posts that could enlighten me, would be helpfull!
Leicester used to be regular opponents for us when they were in the top flight.

The place itself is supposed to be a bit of a dump, that is why it is singled out in the song.

I have never been there though, so if anyone has, is it a dump?
Thanks quartz

When your travel up the M1 there's a sign that says 'To the North AND LEICESTER'

We went through a marathon F.A Cup saga with Sheff Wed in 1979 / 80 ?, drew home and away, drew again and the 4th and 5th replays were at Filbert Street, Leicester which we finally won 2-0.
So if you were a hardcore Arsenal fan going to those matches proved your dedication.

Thanks Stuart, I never realised that was how it all started with the Leicester bit.

I am afraid as far as I know this is a reference to a sixties and seventies chant that started:
We hate Nottingham Forest
and went on as far as I remember:
We hate Tottenham too

then the ...and Leicester bit was added
(their fans were pyschos back in the day)
finshing with
We hate Manchester United
But Arsenal we love you

Later on it was changed about the mid seventies to :
We all follow the Arsenal and the and Leicester bit was left as a joke since by then they were beginning a long slide into crapness.

Thats what I always thought anyway.

New chant for Eboue:

Eboue whoooo
Eboue whooo
He likes to take a dive
Lets give him nine point five

I thought this would be good for when he falls over and wins a penalty.
The last line could be substituted with
Lets give him two point five
When he acts like a tit. It might encourage him to stop doing it and get on with the game.

Just a thought since it seems like he isn't going anywhere else.

"Hey Hey were the arsenal,
People say we pass it around,
But were too busy winning,
And the Tottenhams going down,
And you can stick ya Chelsea,
Come and watch us sing and play,
Arsenes new generation,
The Arsenals here to stay!!!!

Popped this out last year but it seems quite appropriate now!!!!!!

wasnt there a Away fan ban at Leicester at some point Yes I knw there was at Luton but I thought Leicester enforced one to

also Other clubs say Leicester to so I dont think it has anything to do with FA Cup replays
