No i doubt he handles the actual negotiations...but i have no doubt he has a huge say in choosing and valuing targets and the negotiations are held within the framework of what Wenger thinks a player is worth, which is always low, making it extremely difficuilt to buy decent players or compete with other clubs in the transfer market..Rob Admin wrote:I don't think Wenger handles the negotiations does he? Maybe the board have finally learnt their lesson and are now acting fast - they know they're gonna have an empty stadium by the end of Sept if they fuck this up!
Perhaps United was rock bottom and we'll thank them for waking the board up. A long way to go but a lot of the crap has been shipped and we're addressing problems. I feel better than I did last week - but that's not hard is it!
As opposed to how it use to be when Dein was here, where Dein was able to not only identify more ambitious targets but also was in a strong enough position to take it upon himself to pay what was necessary rather than stick to Wengers choices and valuations...
I think the Sol Campbell story says it all really, a world class cb on a free transfer and Wenger had to be persuaded it was ok to pay him 130k a week...honestly what other manager would have to be persuaded in to signing a world class player, at every other club it's the manager trying to persuade the board, not here...
The problem the last few years is there is no one there to question or persuade Wenger... He seems to have had carte blanche on recruitment choices and valuations hence the inflexible pie in the sky project we have been subjected to...
Hopefully what appears to be going on now is a sign that the carte blanche he has had, or the 'project' as some like to call it, is at an end and now the men in suits have stepped in to avert impending catastrophe ...

Things are looking very different from last year. United was rock bottom - we're back lads!

It's become something of a habit now Chippy....Chippy wrote:People really do need to calm down. Does anyone seriously believe we are going to do all this? There are going to be some very disappointed people tomorrow night.

Get one's hopes up - Then have them dashed like a head on sharp rocks after a 300 ft fall off a cliff......
