SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

That quotes about full backs is stupid, and to say 'Suarez shouldn't sign for Arsenal' is an idiotic thing to say as an ex-Arsenal man. It's the same thing he said to his son and look how that worked out.

He contradicts himself and its hyperbolic bollocks. By all means have a pop at Wenger and the lack of spending, but not in a manor that is ill thought out and quite disrespectful.
Ian missed the boat slightly in terms of earning mega-money from football and has a well doccumented 'troubled' youth. What he said about SWP was looking out for him financially, no more no less.

Yes, in hindsight it fucked his career but he will never have to work again in his life.

Honestly, club loyalty asided, why would you sign for Arsenal whilst we are where we are if other options are available? I'd cut my own teeth out if it meant a game for Arsenal but most professional footballers very rarely give a single fuck about the club the represent.

Just like if you worked for a bank, the council or a pub, you go where the money is. Modern life I'm afraid.

Exactly. Also, would SWP's career have been any better at Arsenal under Wenger? I doubt it. Probably be played out of position or crocked by our inept medical team or both.

"I would like to see them go as far as they can to get Suarez, but they can't just buy him and not replenish the rest of the team. I think they need a goalkeeper, two centre-halves, two full-backs - for both left-back and right-back positions - another midfielder and two strikers.

For Wrighty to say this, he dont have a clue what hes going on about. :blah:

Despite a current fitness regime I am in, I know if I was to hear Wenger had quit, been run over by a 10 tonne truck, arrested for tax evasion, or anything that would cause termination of his employment at Arsenal I would be up west tonight, getting totally shitfaced, deliriously happy. That is what I have become this summer, I am a transformed, bitter, spiteful man, and ashamed of it.
Because of Wenger!

The left-back requirement is bizarre. We already have two international left-backs and Vermaelen is capable of playing there too. And he wants us to have five centre-backs? I guess it's the George Graham influence

Are you for real? The bloke is only saying what half of the football fans in this country are thinking, and it's hardly going to factor into Suarez's decision. It's not even directly critical of the club - but because he used to play for Arsenal he therefore has to toe the party line and can't give a perfectly fair and valid assessment of things?

Wrighty had 7 amazing seasons with us where he banged in goal after goal, left everything out on the pitch every time he pulled on the jersey and understood and related to the fans in a way that it's impossible for any modern player to do. And you're accusing him of a lack of loyalty because he basically said he wouldn't make the same move? That is absolutely pathetic.
He should have said nothing at all. What does it accomplish? It's just selling a story to the scum for some quick cash. Its one thing to criticize the club for how we are run it's another thing to say 'hey don't go to Arsenal they are a small club'. It doesn't help, its pathetic.
He's a pundit, it's his job. It's not meant to accomplish anything other than giving an educated opinion and fostering debate, which it's done. He didn't say we're a small club, just that it's not worth all the uproar just to move to a team that will still be unable to challenge for PL and CL - basically echoing the sentiments that are splashed across every form of media.

Wrighty is unfortunately a pretty shit pundit, and some of his views are pretty ridiculous. BUT, let's remember that Wrighty spent the best years of his career banging in goals for a pretty boring team that wasn't good enough to do anything in the league and was reduced to cup runs. I honestly could not think of many people more qualified than Ian Wright to comment on Suarez's predicament.

Wenger on our new signing:

"Sanogo has not made headlines," Wenger added. "Why? Because he is not £50m-£100m but I am quite confident he will make them soon on the pitch and that, for me, is the most important. The quality of the player is not only linked to the amount of money it costs. Sanogo will surprise you. He is a top-class striker."

Its all going exactly according to plan. Wait till the Bale transfer concludes and triggers a mass spending spree all over Europe before we hear the quotes about "staying true to our beliefs" and football not being able to sustain this level of spending.

Every time he opens his mouth, I really despair. Even at this stage I genuinely don't want to slag off the man that changed Arsenal in so many ways between 1998 and 2006. However his failure to accept his mistakes and change over the last few years has slowly turned so many fans against him. So an unproven 20 year old is the answer?
I should be far too old to let this man stress me out the way he does and ruin my summer but looks like he's fucking doing a good job again!! :(

Interesting that the smarmy *word censored* says 50]b] to 100m. I can just see the grin on his face while he said it. Can't stand the sight or sound of him
