The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Sounds like it would just be on loan

Why?He is now the number 3 RB at the club.If he had a future we wouldnt be signing Chambers.

Agreed. Could argue that if Jenko spends a few seasons on loan Debuchy might be finished but in reality signing Chambers would signify the end of his Arsenal career. Although in typical form I don't think he will end up leaving for a few years.

Callum with play CB I think but I would sell Jenko and have a buy back clause, which he will take because he is an arsenal fan threw and through.

If you're debating value for money then there's a huge difference between the 16m reported and his "around 10 mil".

I'm just seeing a Southampton fan comparing one unproven full-back to another. Probably brilliantly positioned to speculate whether he's good enough to be a Southampton first-team player but fans of club like this are always prone to declaring that their talented youngsters can make it at the top level.

Like everyone I haven't seen much of this kid so maybe he will be great, I'm just trying to add a bit of perspective. Also a bit argument to be had about priorities if we spend 25-30m on the RB position and go into the new season expecting Flamini, Arteta or Wilshere to anchor our team the whole year.

Wish we hadn't won the FA Cup is what you're saying?

So do I tbh. I was hoping we'd complete a decade without winning a trophy. That would have been some achievement.

Winning trophies ain't all that's cracked up to be anyway.

it isn't if it's a prelude to yet more stagnation rather than reflection and evolution.

Anyway who cares I said my FA cup bit in anger but deep down inside evry time we f**k up for the next 3yrs(and believe me f**k up we will) I will curse that trophy just a little bit.

On a completely different note and completely un transfer related but I didn't know where to put it. It seems the enlightenment about race in Italy still needs a bit more time as the soon to be head of Italian football has just shared this little ditty on why they lost the World cup

"In England, they identify the players coming in and, if they are professional, they are allowed to play," Tavecchio said at the summer assembly of Italy's amateur leagues (LND).

"Here instead we get 'Opti Pobà', who previously ate bananas and then suddenly becomes a first team player with Lazio.

"That's how it is here. In England, you need to demonstrate what you have on your CV and your pedigree."

Questioned by reporters about the comments afterwards, Tavecchio claimed that he could not remember what he had said in his own speech.
"I can't remember if I said the word 'banana' but I was referring to the CV and professionalism required by English football for players who come from Africa or other countries." he explained.

Ah trust the Italians

Yeah mate. Missing the trophyless era. Remember when we bottled it against Birmingham in the Micky Mouse Cup, or when oppo fans used to chant "x years and you've won fuck all"? Those were the days.

Am I the only person that feels sorry for Jenkinson? I really thought he had a chance of making it (with a bit of work)...the main reason I was happy with Debuchy signing was having an experienced rb for a couple of seasons then Jenks taking over.
Don't know much about chambers?and he may be a great signing, but can't help feeling sorry for Jenkinson.. seeing 2 players signed in your position is a bit of a kick in the bollocks for the lad.

I do too, slightly.

But you have to put it in perspective: he got to live out his dream by playing for his boyhood club (albeit he didn't feature often), all the while pocketing enough money per week these past three years to ensure he's set for life. Besides, he's still an Arsenal player and even if he leaves it might only be on loan.

Speaking on his ability, no, I don't think he'll ever be good enough and will be quite relieved if and when he leaves.
