I was expecting us to get stuffed 4-0.
As it happened, we lost by 2 goals.
Second goal was a good one. Seaman wouldn't have saved it. First goal was in off the post. It happens, or it doesn't.
We had chances to score. It didn't happen.
On balance, I was proud of the lads. One of those games we could have won. But didn't.
Shit happens.

That's the problem mate, it NEVER happens against these sides now. Look at both games home and away last year against chelsea and united, we had loads of chances, scored 2 goals and took 0 points out of a possible 12 ! It's the same thing over and over again and it'll happen again this year.olgitgooner wrote:

Why did Song duck out of taking a whack of the free kick to the chest ??? Christ, he;s paid a shed load of money as a pro - surely being a pro means standing still in the wall. Would have some sympathy if he ducked if his head was gonna get it, but was chest high and if didnt go in we might have still sneaked a draw.
Agree with previous posters though - we needed the early goal and the number of chances we didnt convert was criminal.

Good substitution....? Do you realise that arsenal.com lists him under "Reserves & Youth" not as one of the 22 players listed under "First Team"..... He has made 2 appearances for us, one as sub, and has scored no goals.Barriecuda wrote:I thought he was a good substitution, though he shoulda been put on earlier so he'd have a chance to do something. Powerful, big guy, and kids always have a lot to play for which gives them a high energy level. Sometimes they can really shine on the big stage.donaldo wrote:About as desperate as the bloke who only scores when we are 5-0 upMK Gould wrote:On the one hand I'm thinking that this only one result and we shouldn't overreact.
On the other hand.....Jay Emmanuel-Thomas coming off the bench to rescue us against the Premier league Champions at Stamford Bridge....? I know we have a good few injury problems, but that was pretty desperate....!
I hate to say it, but look at Danny Rose v us last year.
CanadianGunners will have a full write up in the next day or two, keep an eye on the sig!
He is a decent prospect and I'd love to see him come off the bench at home to some of the lesser teams who we'll turn over this season. But I just don't think today was the day to put all our hopes in him....
I can't help but wonder why JET got his Premiership DEBUT in THIS situation really. I know we are short of anything and everything upfront right now, still it strikes me that the timing of debuting JET and Mr. Wenger's comments to the Mail about this being our policy until the stadium is paid for in full prehaps the next TWENTY years, could be less than coincidental and maybe a very subtle shot across the Board's bow.
After all by annoucing what he did in the Mail he either essentially accused the Board of lying to the supporters the past several years or if that is true confirmed that had done that.
And now by playing JET he perhaps showed just what that will mean for the next few years or even decades and perhaps put some real pressure on the Board to alter their startegy here, as surely unless they refute the manager in their actions their credibility is going to be in real jeopardy, and now sacking the manager clearly won't rescue it on its own.

Haven't read the rest of the thread but...was anyone else frustrated by Chamakh in this game?
Not only were his attempts on goal all quite poor, but he seemed very intent on taking dives and going down easily to win penalties.
Also, it might just be me, but his work rate seems rather poor too. Not quite Berbatov-like but going close...

Made the very same point myself and this observation seems to have been largely missed or overlooked by the fans judging by the views of the fans expressed here

Goals win you games arsene and not beautiful football and even clichy said during the week that he would abandon this tippy tappy football if it meant bringing success back to the club......a pity wenger's "ideals" are more important than club success then eh

I have to ask if those that criticise sagna and clichy on a regular basis give any thought whatsoever on the reasons why or if they just look at things at face value

As one of those fearing a thumping yesterday I would have to say that after the game I was satisfied/happy enough at that performance. However later in the evening/night when you start to analyse the game in more detail the fact that we seem to be losing games on a consistant basis for by and large the same reasons (no cutting edge against a team that defends) without adjusting or fixing the problems is a cause of great frustration for me. Right now I cannot see a way out of this situation and that worrys me big time.

I have to ask if those that criticise sagna and clichy on a regular basis give any thought whatsoever on the reasons why or if they just look at things at face valueIf you are playing two full backs with no wingers in front of them protecting them it is bad enough but when you are also expecting these full backs to bomb up and down the wings then it is utter madness. Yesterday they did get up and down that wing (as requested by our beloved leader
) and yes their crossing in general is poor but wenger shouldnt ask them to fly up and down the wings and not expect them to be caught out positionally when it happens.....it isnt as if they get much help from song either is it ?

to defend, he is far too easy to get around, both on the inside and the outside of him, please see again, how he just gives up on Anelka for the disallowed Cashley goal by letting him drift in field...
