Available for a negligible fee, bags of experience and still imo a pretty quality option - but not one that could be said to 'kill' Szczesny. Shouldn't be any worry about the wages given the players we've let go but could give Fabianski away for a nominal fee (and somebody would take him).
Seems crazy that we have the opportunity to shore up a position that desperately needs it (and has done for a decade) for next to nothing and we haven't taken it. I'm personally smarting we didn't sign Lloris - top keeper, perfect age and a very reasonable fee - just so that we could watch Szczesny throw away goals every other week safe in the knowledge that he won't have any meaningful competition for the jersey.
Blimey NB you feel so strongly about it you posted it twice!
All joking aside though I'm in total agreement... complete lunacy to not sign Cesar. Right price, right age, right experience and available.
No doubt the club will have yet another stupid excuse to explain why Cesar has not been pursued.
I'd post it a thousand times if I thought it might get the message across to the club!
Think Wenger has settled on Szczesny as #1 and he's long been enrolled in the Wenger Young Player Protection Plan. Not only would signing Cesar put serious pressure on Wenger to reconsider that, I imagine he has grave reservations about paying a second-choice keeper £70k a week.

If it was my choice I'd be paying him £75k a week as first choice... fuck Wenger and his egotistical youth project.

Agree completely. I posted on here when stories first appeared saying he was available that we should sign him as you'd get a decade out of him, and to subsequently see him end up at the spuds is frustrating.
Why can't we sign a decent keeper? In Lloris' case I imagine Wengernomics meant that Wenker's moneyball formula concluded he was only worth a maximum bid of £5.68M with £6 added over 2 years.

Certainly the last 4
but why do you continually self harm? We will get none of 'em I tells ya.
edit: my bad, just seen this.
Mikel Arteta has promised Arsenal WILL deliver big-name signings this summer - but warned they will all be last-minute deals.
"It will happen. I have no doubts about it. But the great players normally come at the end of the window"
Sorry to rain on yer parade TL, but the only reason Arteta is saying that is because he is trying to Big Himself Up...because he was bought/arrived at the 'end of the window' - However being serious IF he is wrong and no BIG names arrive - I think some journo somewhere should doorstep him maybe in a post match interview and say
"Well then Mikel what ever happened to the BIG names you said would arrive at the end of the window? You know the one's that you advised all Arsenal fans to be patient for?"

We could have signed him and not had to worry for the keepers position for at least 8-10 years. Played in the best team in France for 4 years during which time he also racked up nearly 40 appearances in Europe (mainly CL) and over 40 caps (including World Cup and captaining France at the Euros). All at 25.
Goalkeepers of that quality and experience come around once in a blue moon at a fee of about £10m - if that. Passing on him after a decade's fucking with keepers is a huge mistake and one we'll come to regret more and more in coming years.

Agree 1,000% mate, but of course we are talking the wenker goalkeeper school of knowledge (NOT!) here...remember when we could have had shay given for nowt or brad friedel for peanuts...but Oh! No! Not wenker & co - we had the outstanding Almunia & Flappy didn't we (Before the gobby pole returned form Barnet)... I f*cking despair I really do

Will be backfiring this season once they finished 7th and no treasured CL footie and as Paul Weller said the walls will come tumberling down .
I started the pre-season in an optimistic frame of mind, what with our warchest and promises to spend what it takes to land top quality players. However, so far we've done nothing, when we've glaring problems that need solving.
I've been so dragged down by the club that I used to try and console myself by believing that the Board/AW were merely incompetent, not dishonest, but considering how much time, money and emotion fans put into the club, I feel we are being continually deceived.
I've just seen a quote from the President of Bernard's club that we said we would put in an offer (the Scum had offered c.15 mil) but we never did.
It's clearly been a difficult time to attract top strikers, but GKs, FBs, CBs, DMs, wingers etc are available.
Please, for the love of God, buy some players and stop talking bollocks.
