THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

But we did buy quite a few players...
We were never gonna shop from a higher shelf no matter what our results
lose v Wigan we will have less to spend

We all know Mourinho is destined for the Chavs, now Real Madrid have made an official approach to PSG for Ancelotti.
It could all fall nicely in to place by Wednesday am.

I'd be surprised if Wenger didn't see out his contract
(but I thought we'd buy a big name striker in the transfer window)

We did and I would probably argue we're in better shape than last season marginally, purely because now with the addition of one top quality striker we would actually be a pretty handy side, although still well short of where we should be/where I'd like to be. Couldn't have said one player in any position would have made a difference like that last year.

But would Wenger have been so content with the playing squad had we played well for three months at the start of the season and then been cack for the rest of it and clung on to CL football (i.e. the reverse of what we did)? I'm not sure.

hard to tell. My instinct is Wenger is not responsive enough - as opposed to being easily swayed by form
I agree our main weakness is GLARING, one striker could totally transform us
still baffled it wasn't addressed (even temporarily) in the last two windows

Wenger's unsuspected genius

Post by Nos89 »

All three domestic trophy winners from 2012 have been sacked. League cup - Dalglish, FA Cup - Di Matteo, Premier League - Mancini.

Wenger no trophies - still employed - His genius was getting his employers to lower their expectations, top 4 finish is a "trophy" - deliver that and you stay in a job. Discuss?

Quite simple in my view.

Kroenke likes profit, Wenger delivers him profit.

Silverware is an added bonus for Kroenke but not essential.

Wenger did not have to persuade Kroenke of anything.
Kroenke's American franchises are not huge winners of silverware, but they tick over and make cash (as far I can tell) and Kroenke is happy with that.

* ARSENAL are set to get a seven-figure cash windfall thanks to trophy bonuses - even though they have not won any silverware themselves, writes John Cross.

This just about sums it up for me - they are rewarded for achieving par or the average that they should be doing. It is a sad state of affairs at the Socialist-model, Arsenal.

2 mil bonus from RvP winning the league, 2mil from Cesc. One for Wenker, one for Stan.
Sure let's sell them and make even more profit when they win something. Why would we pay them bonuses for winning something with us? :cussing:

Would people rather we didn't negotiate add-ons? Surprised at the irritation.
(unless LeProf, Ivan or Stan were directly benefiting)

This. It's not rocket science.

Sorry mate, not different enough to warrant another Wenger thread so I'm merging it.
