SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

We ain't gonna budge on price and he don't wanna stay - gonna get messy.

Liverpool fans have flooded BBC article comments complaining about lack of quotes, should be fun when this breaks tomorrow.

Yep, shades of JVP last year with his "update for the fans".

Yep. They'll sell at £45m, let's them save face and at that price their fans will jump gleefully on him if he is anything other than an unmitigated success.

northbank123 wrote:That's just the thing. We know the money's going to be there (with the new Emirates, kit manufacturer and TV deals) yet Gazidis and co seem happy to suggest that after years of belt-tightening we're then going to go out one year all of a sudden and then splurge.

Instead of 6 years of roughly breaking even then spending £70m, surely it would have been better to stagger the spending over a greater period? Still the same end result financially but far better for the team and also less risk as we wouldn't be cutting it quite so fine with staving off the Scum.
Brilliant idea in theory but we would never of done that for fear of failing to qualify for the ECL and its vast riches, they always kept back sufficient to counteract non qualification.
It wouldn't surprise me if the same reasons are behind our rather mediocre transfer dealings this summer, forget all the bullshit that Gazidis spouted... Wiggy has control of the purse strings and there is no way he is going to jeopardise his money making machine to appease the fans, certain players or a CEO who opened his gob when it was best kept shut. :blah:

You think Gazidis has been off message, gone against Silent Stan's wishes?
I'd be seriously surprised...

If we do buy this racist *word censored* then we wont strengthen the wafer thin squad with any more purchases .
Sagna is not and never will be a competent centre half in the premiership .
Having loaned out out our only DM cover and 4th CB for pittances ,we are again 1 injury away from crisis and we all know the injuries will come.
This squad is a disaster waiting to happen ,normally that occurs in November then again in March !

The long trip to Asia has left us weeks behind in training which is also a concern given that we will be having to compete in the qualifier against teams whose league will have been under way for a week or two b4 ours .

Does anyone know what Stan's wishes are? You and I and 100s of thousands of other fans are still waiting to hear what Kroenke's vision is for the club.
My point about Gazidis JD is this, he is in a no win scenario Kroenke takes no interest in communicating with the fans so this is all left to our CEO or Manager. As we know Wenger has a habit of being mis-quoted or rubbing people up the wrong way so once again Gazidis steps in.
You only need to read a few of the threads on here to realise a lot of ST holders didn't renew this year and although that may not of been a huge concern in itself as we had/have a waiting list of fans ready to part with their hard earned, it would of been seen by Gazidis as a sign that the fanbase are getting considerably more restless than they have been and are ready to start staying away.
The way the club had to really push the Emershits cup reinforces the notion that fans where thinking very carefully before parting with any cash.
So Gazidis had to go on a charm offensive and offer us a nice little sweetener, an incentive if you like... To keep spending on The Arsenal and we will invest that money on the players that you all crave...... BULLSHIT!
So in answer to your question JD... Gazidis was doing what any CEO would do, trying to keep both sides happy. It might be a very delicate balancing act but at the end of the day that is his job.
FWIW... I don't think Stan would of been to impressed with Ivan bigging up our spending power, but neither would he be if his profit margins decreased.
I think we will wait until champions league is assured and then there will be no more than 2 signings with an overall spend of something around fifty million... then again I could be totally wrong. :barscarf:

Just seen Bayern are happy to let Luiz Gustavo leave for Wolfsburg......A player I would quite happily have at The Arsenal, but there's a 0.01% chance of us stealing in for him though. :)

Feel free to move this post mods as I have veered off topic.

look on the bright side chaps, with the lack of signings the Board have had more time to sign up the boss...

:banghead:

if we do get Suarez, it does nothing for the lack of strength in midfield. we still need a box to box midfielder who can run all day like Parlour, Freddie, Flamini, Paddy etc and protect the back four, break up attacks and spring ours.

any word on Diaby lately ? :banghead: :banghead:

Thank you.
After a striker, this is my priority.
Rather than a "Holding midfielder' who acts like Gilberto, we need box-to-box and ball-winning ability, energy and physical force in the middle of the pitch.
