THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Re: Wenger's unsuspected genius

Kroenke likes profit, Wenger delivers him profit.

Silverware is an added bonus for Kroenke but not essential.

Wenger did not have to persuade Kroenke of anything.
Kroenke's American franchises are not huge winners of silverware, but they tick over and make cash (as far I can tell) and Kroenke is happy with that.
That's exactly IT Quartz....BigWig see's us/The Arsenal as a Business - a Very lucrative and Profitable one.....most businesses rely on the "Quality" of their product to please people BMW their cars, Linn their audio products etc etc...However football plays - as it has for many generations now - a HUGE part in people's lives....it is (usually) part of their childhood, the family and social dynamics....it becomes a 'Love' in one's life...an 'Addiction' and so those who run football clubs as a business know that the fan base will not - in fact CANNOT turn their backs and go/shop elsewhere....that is why american's term football clubs as Franchise...cause that's how they see it Purely 101% Profit Based and if they can get a bit of fame/popularity etc while they own it so much the better...just because a manufacturing business who makes a profit doesn't win company of the year in that particular product line doesn't do them any harm, as long as they are making a bigger profit year on year....they will stick with the same thing till profits start to decrease THEN they start looking at the reasons - and start changing the product - this being football so they can't and so then the next step is laying people off....so until Wenger either leaves of his own accord or Arsenal stops making a profit for them - which would entail ALL Gooner's not buying tickets/shirts etc etc he is here to stay.

People need to hold the two image realisations in their head - yes Arsenal FC to them is their beloved football club, however it is also now a business owned by someone who only cares about One Thing "Profit".

So Wenger is looking forward to a pressure game, because otherwise it could get boring.
Reading this and the above article re Sanago on the train home I can only come to one conclusion.
He will never change, and next season will be business as usual, no big name signings, just more French/African prospects.
I can't really be bothered if we get fourth spot or not, if failure quickens Wenger's departure from the club next week I will be the first (of many) Arsenal supporters to drink a toast.

That and his other stat about however many years it is now of qualifying from the Group stage of the cup we'll never win. Reasons to be cheerful......ONE ARSENE WENGER, THERE'S ONLY ONE ARSENE WENGER

In one way I'm kind of grateful that there is indeed only ONE arsene wenger because if there was two we would be even more f*cked than we are at present.

Sadly, he is under no real pressure to change from the owner, board, sufficient numbers of fans, so why on earth would he change when in Wengerworld, it is everybody else who is wrong ? His failures are down to other people bending the rules / overpaying / defending in numbers / 4th officials not letting him dictate the refereeing decisions / pitch being bobbly / forgot to wear his lucky pants etc, etc, never him or his team that he picked.

IF Wenger does spend money on, (for arguements sake) five top players, and achieving to spend £70m or more in doing so, he would surely stay beyond next season.
Should we achieve finishing above the toilet tomorrow, then he SHOULD leave, whilst he had a semblance of dignity left.
I think the greedy git will not spend on players, and remain for two more seasons.

Oh fuck it, I'm rather happy that the cricket is here now tbh.

Just had a look at the final standings in the league.

Top seven teams are the only one's with a + goal difference.

If the PL consisted of just these teams this season, then we would have finished 6th? (head to head).

WHAT?! and if we had played in the tiddlywinks northern section, we might have won that by a margin of a pickle to a left handed avacado.

so we scraped 4th whoop de doo.

Warren Barton pointed out on Fox Soccer that we had fallen so far to be celebrating 4th....

its all so predictable, we'll bring in some more new faces over the summer who'll be badly managed, the same faces will be injured again, we'll start slowly, go on a run against poor teams, wobble when we place decent ones, go on another run against the same poor teams. they'll be too many draws, the odd thumping and one or two careless losses against mid table clubs due to lack of preparation.

we'll go out of the cups before the semis, 1st or 2nd knockout round in the ECL, then scrape 4th or may be not for once.

there i've just saved you all a grand each and a lot of pain.

oh and Cesc will sign for City. Obviously.
