That's exactly IT Quartz....BigWig see's us/The Arsenal as a Business - a Very lucrative and Profitable one.....most businesses rely on the "Quality" of their product to please people BMW their cars, Linn their audio products etc etc...However football plays - as it has for many generations now - a HUGE part in people's lives....it is (usually) part of their childhood, the family and social dynamics....it becomes a 'Love' in one's life...an 'Addiction' and so those who run football clubs as a business know that the fan base will not - in fact CANNOT turn their backs and go/shop elsewhere....that is why american's term football clubs as Franchise...cause that's how they see it Purely 101% Profit Based and if they can get a bit of fame/popularity etc while they own it so much the better...just because a manufacturing business who makes a profit doesn't win company of the year in that particular product line doesn't do them any harm, as long as they are making a bigger profit year on year....they will stick with the same thing till profits start to decrease THEN they start looking at the reasons - and start changing the product - this being football so they can't and so then the next step is laying people off....so until Wenger either leaves of his own accord or Arsenal stops making a profit for them - which would entail ALL Gooner's not buying tickets/shirts etc etc he is here to stay.QuartzGooner wrote:Quite simple in my view.
Kroenke likes profit, Wenger delivers him profit.
Silverware is an added bonus for Kroenke but not essential.
Wenger did not have to persuade Kroenke of anything.
Kroenke's American franchises are not huge winners of silverware, but they tick over and make cash (as far I can tell) and Kroenke is happy with that.
People need to hold the two image realisations in their head - yes Arsenal FC to them is their beloved football club, however it is also now a business owned by someone who only cares about One Thing "Profit".
