Surely a naturally defensive midfielder is what we need so that it can free up wilshere, cazorla, ramsey, ox and rosicky to play their more natural attacking game ? Buying a box to box midfielder will still mean the same amount of defensive responsibility for those attacking midfielders and is nearly as alien a concept as playing podolski and bendtner on the wing

nah augie, a box to box does both - knows when to defend and sit in front of the back four, and when to bomb forward and make one pass or finish or a move.

I am with Clockender on this one - I want us to buy a box-to-box midfielder who can tackle.
I think the team has lost attacking momentum, pace and power since Vieira, and then Flamini, left.
Whilst I can see the "Safety First" merits of a Gilberto "Holding" type defensive midfielder, and the purchase of a top level player of such vintage would be an asset to the squad and better than buying no- one, especially with a defence that is a work in progress, I prefer more oomph as a remedy to the too oft sideways passing we have made a habit of.

If our new signing line sup next to Wilshere, then I have confidence in Wilshere to sit back and tackle/intercept when needed.

No Higuain, no Rooney, no Suarez, no Fellaini........no player in excess of £20m. Not now, not in January, not next year, not on Wenger's watch.....ever. And certainly no surprise to me

Absolute shambles - the money that must be earned by Suarez's advisors and they've let Liverpool ambiguously word a release clause. A clause obliging Liverpool to inform Suarez of any massive offer seems bizarre and pointless - don't doubt he thought he was getting a straight release clause at that fee.

Well, if whats being said is true - Suarez had a deal with Rodgers to stay another season on the basis of playing UCL and they agreed to have a contract drawn up to reflect this understanding. It appears no one doubts that words exist to the effect that failure to make UCL and an offer of 40m+ were trigger points. Now, whether by serendipity or through instruction, the lawyers may have made those clauses ambiguous however that does not hide the INTENT.

My point is this - Rodgers cannot in good conscience complain about Wenger's approach, nor state that 'liverpool only act with class' nor get the humps when Suarez acts out if he is the architect behind deceiving his own player via beauracracy. I don't care if the contract is ambiguous - if the intent was to reflect a man to man understanding then Rodgers is in the wrong and Suarez is entitled to be shirty whether we get him or not.

As for other posts - I agree with Augie - we NEED a supremo take no prisoners DM that can play a bit.

In other news, i read this morning of some interest in Gundogan - thoughts?

PS Suarez was only a 22m or so purchase - what would El Shaarawy cost or Martinez (now that ive had a look at him?)

AGREE ENTIRELY!!!! Have been saying this for 6 or 7 years. We don't need a box to box we need a proper number 6! We want someone who very rarely gets forward, runs all day, challenges like a machine and is quick to get a pass away. Geez i miss Petit. How about his goal in the WC Final in 98!

The way things are going I'd take him back - Im getting pretty close to losing all my principles. Ive been following a team over here in Rugby League for 40 years and dropped off them because of a signing they made at the start of the season - a self centred gun for hire - of course they are leading the comp convincingly and id be a bandwagoner if i jump back on.

So Wenger - sign anyone that can play - i dont care about their history, their personal habits, their price - just get em. I want results ya turd.
