You said that even if Wenger wins the PL you would still want him out. How ever you try and paint it to me that makes you less then 100% interested in the success of Arsenal and just another form of bigot no different to someone who will never question anything that lord arsene does.Clash wrote:My God man - where did I say I would RATHER be proven right ?LDB wrote:One of the silliest posts ever on this board and that I'm the first person to pull up on it speaks volumes about some of the attitudes around here. IF Wenger went into the transfer market and bought all the players we need (I know highly unlikely but IF) and went on to win the PL would everyone who wants him to resign now be in favour of him signing a contract extension at the end of the 2013/2014 season.
Anyhow just a question.....
There is also damage he has done that cannot be repaired.
One of my Arsenal mates reckons next time we win something (and we will one day) it will feel better than ever ... but I'm not so sure. The last time we won a trophy (and all the times before that) I loved the players, the manager and ALL of our supporters. I don't feel that way about any of them anymore so I don't know how its gonna feel. I still want something, but I fear Wenger's smug grin and that annoying 'I told you so' smirk tainting it. Not to mention the AKB's who will say they've been proved right ... even though they have already been proved wrong!
It's my firm belief that Wenger's best days are behind him but he' still a manager that more often then not gets the best out of his players. He is no longer one of the best managers in world football but he is far from the worst. I can't stand the way he fails to impart the same attitude in the players to win cup games as he clearly does to achieve league consistency but to hate him even if he delivers success again is just a poor mentality I'm afraid.
I said the reaction to Wenger winning something (from both him and his supporters) would somewhat taint the victory for me. This is NOT the same as saying I wouldn't want us to win something.
But for me things like the divide in our support and the fact that I do not have the same affection for the players or manager I used to have will not make our next trophy (if it comes under Wenger) as, or more, enjoyable than the 14 I have seen in my lifetime! My mate said for him it would be more special.
I do question how long Wenger gets to fail before his critics are proven right though! Hasnt 8 years of sod all already been failure? Or can you go say 15 years with nothing - then win something in the 16th year - and then suddenly that 15 years of failure is wiped out and the critics are forced to eat their words? Doesnt work like that for me!
The last 8 years of failure are set in stone and forever in the record books as far as I'm concerned. One or two trophies from Wenger at the end of his reign will not change how I view him.

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
I admit that the day he leaves cannot come soon enough for me and if by some miracle we were to win the title again under Wenger, yes I would still want him out because a title win wouldnt be enough to cancel out the numerous reasons I cant wait to see the back of him. I fail to see how that makes me a bigot. I think it just shows that Im not as fickle as others are. We're all different.LDB wrote:You said that even if Wenger wins the PL you would still want him out. Anyway we are both wasting each others time discussing an answer to a a hypothetical question about something that isn't going to happen so might have to just draw a line under this one.
Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Can I just point out how stupid this convo is. Wenker is never going to win anything again, apart from the occasional 4th place trophy. Anyone notice that the manager who just won the Bundesliga and the Champions League was sacked before about 5 months ago cos he was too old!

Reads as being verp pc to me with all this "we love germans" ethos
Personally I dont feel that Arsenal fans have any issue's with germans but imo hornby is trying too hard to convey that message like he is defensive when really there is no need to be

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
With the resources he works with Wenger has been amazingly consistent. I think we have just been spoilt by a period when we had an incredible team. I bet if, prior to Wenger's arrival, someone said we will get you a manager that will deliver a ubstantial nuimber of trophys, keep us in at least the top 4 for 16 years or so and ensure we are not only in the Champions League but also make the knockout rounds more than any other club in Europe there would be NO ONE saying hmmmmm let me thing about it.
The stadium itself is another fantastic legacy and the financial state of the club now has us set up for generations.
I think sometimes our fans are too blinkered by the 2000s and need to remember the 70s, 80s and 90s - although it is also quite apparent many current fans werent around for those periods - not their fault but certainly taints there views.
Personally, I'd keep Wenger until he wants to leave - you watch United fall back to earth now SAF is gone - mark my words.

Well there you have it folks. Lets all forget about the last 5/6 years of piss taking, charging sky high ticket pricing, tactical ineptitude and selling our best player and not replacing them.Swifty wrote:With the resources he works with Wenger has been amazingly consistent.
