The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I still say him,and his passion and potential, over a £12m 29 year old French average player all day long. And I don't give a flying one if you don't agree....my opinion. Good luck Carl whatever the ultimate outcome :barscarf:

Naah, I'll expect contract extension between him and Juve to be announced soon and what could be better leverage to those negotiations like transfer rumors :barscarf: :barscarf:

A week or so ago the Arsenal 49's claimed we were having discussions with PP.

They have also put a picture up of Ozil with Reus with " dream team in waiting" (doesn't necessarily mean this season)

2 additions still to make apparently............

Now a lot of people claim insider knowledge, but they have called Ozil, Ospina, Debuchy so am happy to wait and see how this pans out.

Real are probably worried about the real possibility of him going for free next summer or very little in January.

They will push him out the door before 1st September so still think he will be sold likely to a Premier league team or France. Bayern can't buy him without getting shot of Martinez/Schweinsteiger.

He will likely be wearing the red of Manure or blue of the chavs come September.
If his wage demands are as ridiculous as reported then Monaco could be feasible, especially with the James Rodriguez money burning a hole in their pocket and no self-respecting footballer interested in going to play for them.

That's what makes me laugh with loan deals these days. Everton have had to pay £28M to stand still and keep a player they had last season. You should never get so reliant on loan players, especially not a top 10 Premier League team.

The loan system is a farce. At one point towards the end of last season I decided to check how many players Chelsea had out on loan - 28. Literally more than you're allowed to register for a PL or CL squad. A huge number of those are talented young players they signed and will never ever play. FFS they signed Hazard's brother just to appease him and have loaned him out for 3 seasons now. Chelsea are not alone in this but they are by far the worst - they stockpile young talent and these talented players end up being sold at 24 with no top level experience. How Greg Dyke can get banging on about B leagues and close his eyes to this impediment is beyond me.

On the other side of the coin you have clubs like us who have taken players on a season-long loan. Huge financial resources, a massive playing squad and pool of academy players - how can you justify long-term loans for Viviano, Kallstrom, Benayoun, etc? Going after Demba Ba on 31st August last year was embarrassing transfer business but the mere concept of Chelsea loaning Arsenal a player for a whole season is absurd.

I stress again he's only turned 21.

Mourinho is a fuckwit of the highest order for selling him to make way for a 36 year old Drogba.

Born in Belgium. There's no chance of any of that dodgy age altering shit happening over there.

Out of interest, I looked up some of the names not on that list.

Owen - 54
Crespo - 36
Stoichkov - 33

Batistuta - 13 (Shocked by this)

Lineker - 7

I personally don't rate him that highly, good player for a mid-table/UEFA Cup side but not at all disappointed we didn't go for him. I guess Everton will bank on a few good years from him at least and then if they sell recouping the vast majority of what they've paid. Failing to sign a striker who could do a consistent job in the team and chip in with regular goals held Everton back under Moyes so it seems sensible to me to try and address that.

Mourinho clearly didn't feel he was worth a chance, he's gone to Everton so obviously there wasn't much interest and they've got £25m for him? I want to know who the fuck is negotiating these deals for Chelsea after fleecing PSG for so much for Luiz.
Have you forgotten that he's still only 21?
I hadn't but thanks for the two reminders.

The two biggest reasons young footballers improve from that sort of age are gaining more first-team experience and physical gains. A player like Lukaku - with 5 seasons of regular first-team football already and clearly physically developed from an early age - is going to see far less benefit than a technically gifted 21-year old who wasn't physically developed and whose playing style wasn't suited to playing first-team football at an earlier age.

Lukaku is a handy player, and he will get better but I just don't see what attributes he has that suggest he's going to be a world class player. His physicality will always make him a handful and he's capable of the odd great finish or piece of play but technically I'm not hugely impress and that's not something that automatically comes with age.

Errm... Yikes!
Don't want the disruptive immature retard anywhere near my club....He can send his missus over though if he likes. :-P :-P :-P
I heard (from reliable source) the deal was pretty much done but fell through because he wants £180k a week.

Also Jenko to go out on loan, perhaps West Ham.
