As an aside it was nice to see David O'Leary and Pat Rice in the crowd. Proper Arsenal men.

Two dives, two bookings, plus the added joy of AdM having a tug of the ref's shirt and having a bonus booking and early shower.

never seen Manure so desperate, diving, harassing ref, claiming anything and everything, Thought the ref showed elephant sized balls, wish one ref out there would book Rooney for constantly bleating. Loved seeing all the players tackling and chasing back, the only worry was Chezza, looked like he was sulking.

A great win and a serious monkey off our back. For a while anyway.

I don't agree the service to Welbeck (I'm banning the next fucker that calls him "Welbz"   ) was that poor. Fully accept it wasn't great but I thought his touch was shocking, everything bouncing a yard off him. He was playing as a lone striker and that is a tough role, you might get two sniffs of the ball all night in decent positions and you gotta make them count. But his first touch is awful most times. For me anyway, Welbeck is not as good a finisher, or as good in the air, or as good in linking up as Giroud. Welbeck is bang average. He's not shit, but he's not great either. Like Giroud he has something to offer but we should have a top top class striker in there ahead of both of them.

BUT

He did brilliant to press for his goal and his touch to go round their keeper was excellent. He made the goal for himself and I was delighted to see him ram it down Beavis's throat AND to celebrate too! He also worked hard to chase and harry which Giroud hardly bothered with when he came on.

I thought Monreal did brilliant for his goal. He has huge flaws in his game no doubt but he was mostly very good last night and tbh I reckon Gibbs would have ballooned the fuck out of that shot.

Chesney was bad. He looks rattled, totally void of confidence and his clearing was terrible. Similarly Sanchez, apart from one or two touches, was very poor by his high standards. Was good to see Ozil actually bust a tackle in too!

I agree with augie RE the ref. He was terrible in the first half. I counted 9 maybe 10 cynical fouls by Fail-ani before he was booked. Not just fouls but cynical professional fouls. Yet he booked Bellarin for his first tackle! Having said that, fair fucks to him though for actually penalising the filthy diving cheating manc cúnts. At Old Shatford!! When was the last time that fucking happened!!!

When Rambo came on I nearly puked. I have no confidence in him at all anymore. He is back to where he was two years ago; picking the wrong ball, over-elaborating, giving away cheap possession, always with the unnecessary back heels and flicks, trying the difficult thing when an easy ball is on.

The Big Cowardly Pussy was better last night than he's been in a while but he made some silly errors too.

I thought Santi and Ox were great. Particularly Ox for Nacho's goal. Just shows what you can do to this manc side if you go at them. Shame he pulled up with a hammy. :(

It was a mixed bag, some good, some not so good, but ultimately it was a great win and I've not enjoyed a match or screamed so much abuse and encouragement during a game in a long time! We all know what's wrong with our team but let's just enjoy a fantastic result while we can.

Have you not watched them for the last 20 years???

The difference now is that refs aren't falling for it quite so readily.

Odd that for a team who had three players booked for diving, and one sent off for poking the ref  that there were far less renditions of 'same old Arsenal, always cheating'

Can't help but love irony.

I've never been so happy to have been proven wrong in all my life! Fucking brilliant result which I really didn't think we'd get :barscarf:

I agree with most of what the Dublin midget says (2 posts back) and would add that the officials performance shows that the intimidating effect Red Nose used to have on them is a thing of the past. Very strong ref although he did let Foulaini get away with a bit too much. Bellerin's booking though was a clear cut yellow regardless of where on the pitch or when during the game it happened.
Would like to have got the mousers in the semi's though
That match comes amid a hectic schedule for them and I think it would be an easier game than meeting them in the final.
We should get there again this year but I'm not under-estimating what either of our potential semi opponents will throw at us.

It was quite amusing when everyone in the away end went from singing Giroud's name, wanting Welbeck off, to absolutely belting his name out, bouncing up and down. Lovely touch by Welbeck to go round the keeper, although TBH I was expecting him to do a Torres and fluff his open goal. Nice to see him celebrate as well, none of that non-celebration bollocks that's become standard in the last few years.

Calm down, he was gifted a goal even I could have scored. Just enjoy it.
Sorry Chippy but no you couldn't have! You (nor Giroud) wouldn't have had the pace to have beaten DeGea to the ball in the first place, so the easy opportunity that resulted wouldn't have presented itself at all. :rubchin:

I know a lot of people knock Welbeck, but to be fair to the guy, although poor in the first half, he barely got any service in dangerous areas. In the 2nd half he did manage to tuck away the one chance he got - after creating it for himself with his anticipation and pace. 8) Let's also not underplay his work-rate, which resulted in him winning the ball back for us numerous times in the second half when we might have been put under pressure. :barscarf: :barscarf:
Agreed. I've said it since he was linked, i think hes a good signing. Yes, he isnt going to get 20 goals a season and yes, you should definitely sign someone better than both him and Giroud but he is a good squad player, always works his balls off, sometimes links play well (albeit hes inconsistent at it) and he can play upfront or on the left which increases your options a bit if you need something different. Not a great player but its not his fault if he gets games, all he can do is keep trying his best and his workrate has always been class, hope he gets support from the crowd because he deserves it and is something of a confidence player

Brilliant to wake up and realise we have at last beaten those those c***s....Was a bit overboard in my praise of ref last night. Fall-ini and Rojo did get away with a lot but I would praise him for the yellows for simulation. .How the fuck does Rooney get away with the constant in the ref's face rage. ? spoke to Arsenal fan after game and maybe it was over the top excitement from us both, but we asked the question about how much United won under Whiskey Nose because of referees being intimidated at that dump. There is no denying they had excellent teams but the sight of him glaring at refs must have been hard for them.
That is two excellent performances and wins in Manchester, and to throw in a sour note , neither vindicate the manager. In fact they (both games) ask questions about other performances.
