Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he is still in the market for two more players before the transfer window closes on 31st August. With Alex Song's move to Barcelona sealed, it looks increasingly like Nuri Sahin will come in from Real Madrid, but the Arsenal manager intriguingly added that he was in the market for a defender too.
'We are looking to bring one more midfielder in of course, and maybe one defender as well because we still feel we are short in some positions,'
With five first team centre backs still on the books (though Squillaci is surely not longed for the club) and Miquel as a 5th choice centre half and two full backs on each side, it will be very interesting to see what and whom we look to add at the back.
Personally I think we're being shafted up the Arsenal on that deal. Thye get a young striker who could well thrive upfront on his own as a Zlatan-lite, whilst we get Mexes, in his 30s, no pace and prone to mistakes. Can you imagine having him and Mertsacke paired together
I agree with this completely. But hey! Arsene knows . . .

Let's hope he "Sahin" in an AFC shirt soon.
he's in a similar polo shirt like santi was...trying to find the link
The photo shop one on @AFCAMDEN's twitter account?
Wengers thinking is that Koscielny can play right back and Vermaelen can play left back and both do reasonable jobs. I'd be interested to see what type of defender we are looking at. Mexes would only come in if we loaned Djourou out IMO.
Heard rumours we are in for Phil Neville from Everton on a free transfer. Apparently Everton want to reduce their wage bill. Wenger wants him as a back up for RB and holding mid.

I think this board would go into meltdown if that happened

More then that mate. It would be super quality with the handbrake off type meltdown.
the elephant in the room though is surely striker....if we let billy big bollx go, that leaves us with SQP and the camel. as our bench options.
sqp cnnot be considered even 4th choice considering he wasnt trusted to play last year and the camel is gone in the head after his shenanigans. bendtners isnt good enough for us, but he is better than those 2.
that said its baffling we still wont have a defensive midfileder 9sahin isnt defensive), considering we have just sold our supposed one...
