2 Questions for the Critics

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I think he needs to keep his gob shut for a while. If he doesn't, someones going to lock him up for his own good.

augie wrote:I'm in total agreement with charlie charlie that finishing in the top 4 must be our priority right now so if I was manager my signings would reflect that. I have also always said that my criticism of wenger and calls for his removal are 100% dependent on his refusal to see the problems in our team and squad right now but if he actually is aware of them and makes really serious moves to improve the team and squad by bringing in better quality players in jan and in the summer than I would be prepared to postpone judgement until summer 2010 - however should he refuse to do that then I would hand him his p45 on feb 1st 8)

Anyway smoothie I will play along with your game for now and nominate my suggestions for a successor to wenger and signings for jan -

Wenger's Replacements :

1. Rijkard
2. Van Basten
3. Del Bosque (would actually be my 1st choice but highly unlikely to be
available :( )

Potential Signings :

1. Shay Given
2. Arteta
3. PV4
4. Xabi Alonso
5. Arshavin
6. Podolski
7. Christian Poulsen
8. De Rossi

Now I am sure that if I sat down and done some serious thinking about it I could come up with a ton more names but this is just a list off the top of my head. I am beginning to get really pissed off and frustrated with the bullshit coming out from fans who think there is no manager out there to replace wenger, no players out there that we can get that are better than what we have and nobody out there that can run our club better than our current board - talk about being afraid of the unknown  :banghead: :banghead:
Great post Augie, I would add Lippi to the managers list and probably Marquez of Barca as a Centre half but apart from that you're spot on with your alternatives and your comments re the nonsense from fans.

As much as it pains me to admit it, I don't think Wenger will turn things around. He has completely commited to this project of bringing the youngsters through at the expense of bringing in established players in the transfer market. To back down would be admitting a major mistake and extremely embarrassing for him and we all know how stubborn he is.

Therefore, I am hoping, come the end of the season, Wenger himself decides it is time to go. Unfortunately that is unlikely but I don't want him sacked or hounded out, the man does not deserve that after all he is done.

As for replacements, there are various options but the board might have to accept it could cost them a bit. O'Neill is a tough one as Villa have money these days. What do people think of Moyes? We have so many players with technical ability but the likes of Ramsey and Wilshere need to be coached about discipline when they don't have the ball.

Signings wise, the one that has baffled me all season is Appiah. No transfer fee, an international captain who is tough in the tackle and can play a bit as well, exactly what we need and yet Wenger has ruled him out.

I agree with all you say. There has to comes a time when we all have so say enough is enough.I was crictical of Wenger last season when in january with the title within touching distance he failed to sign the 2 players who would have taken us over the line.Since then we sold Diarra,Flamini,Helb and Gilberto thats alright if you replace them but not one was replaced.
Wengers biggest failing is his stubborness. His excuses that he cant find the right player and he wont pay high transfer fees are wearing thin.

Just 4 years ago we had a wonderful team with great players now the team is full of average players. Now there is a big chance we will finish out of the top 4.And if that happens the blame will be all down to Wenger

Why do you think that?

He didn't leave Wycombe for Forest in the early 90s

He didn't leave Leicester until he'd at least won 2 cups on took them as far as possible.

Why would he prematurely leave Villa when he's got a realistic chance of overtaking us?

When Wenger goes I think Arsenal Football Club will cease to exist because frankly Arsene is the only manager on earth who has ever had any kind of success as well as being perfect and 100% free from any mistakes!

We all best start looking for another team to support lads........Wenger will go and the end is nigh!

i dont have an actual reason as such, just think Arsenal are a bigger club, more (potential) resources, london club (can attract bigger players), champions league every year (so far), probably more money, more recognition, villa punching above their weight whereas we are well below ours but still level (ish ) in the table

isn't there some legal problem involving his club?

Wenger's Replacement:

1. Van Basten
2. Rijkard

With Dennis coming in as assistant manager

Potential Signings :

1. Arteta
2. Hatem Ben Arfa
3. Frey
4. Kranjcar
5. Hangeland
6. Ribery
7. Källström
8. Xabi Alonso

This is a big wish list and there is some doubling up of positions, but for me this highlights the problems we have all over the park and how light our squad generally is.

On another note, Bobby Pires was at the Pompy game, what I would give to have him on the wing again. Wenger got it completely wrong when he sold him.
