In December 2006, shortly after the opening of Emirates Stadium, some of our fans strongly informed us that they were upset with the flying of certain flags denoting particular regions of the world at the stadium on matchdays.
As a result, the Club made the decision to permit for permanent display only flags without national emblems in the stadium.
The Club has listened to our supporters on this issue and, based on their input in recent weeks, has decided to revise this policy. For the remainder of the current season, supporters will be allowed to display national flags in Emirates Stadium.
At the end of this season, and based on our experience with the revised policy, the Club will review whether it is able to extend this new policy through the 2009/2010 season and beyond.
The Club would like to stress that all flags should be under one metre deep, as any flags larger than this will obstruct the view of other supporters.
Arsenal prides itself on our inclusiveness with respect to all nationalities, cultural and ethnic groups represented in our diverse fan base. We believe that the reintroduction of national flags, if treated responsibly, can allow our fans to celebrate the Club’s diversity in a safe and enjoyable environment
