I always thought Freddie would be sold.He missses more games than he plays. That is why i couldn"t believe it when Arsene said he was 90% staying. As i have said in other posts i still think we need a centre half(Toure has the ANC and Gallas has a poor injury record) and we need a real wide man who can beat people.

Summer spending

Post by lowerwest »

Got absolutely no problem with Freddie going as i think he is past it plus if West Ham think he is a good deal for 3m then they are clearly more stupid than i thought. The whole point of my thread is to show how down on numbers we are and generally lacking in experience. We are more than more likely 3 players down and one must be a wide man. Are we even looking or are we going to make do as usual?

have to say I agree with lower west ..last season the player we missed most was Pires - never replaced him in terms of goal threat & creativity...Hleb should have been the first player offloaded this summer - great 5 a side player but does not have enough end product for us...so what happens - we sell several squad members & our main striker & are now left with a lot of promising talent ...unfortunately "promising" will not sustain trophy challenges in league & champions league

Freddie going is no surprise - shame he had to stick the knife in as he left - but we must bring in a quality wide player & in my mind an experienced striker - I guess Arsene knows but don't feel too positive about it all right now!

Le Boss was always going 2 let freddie go if the offer was acceptable to everybody but it does again ask serious questions about the size of this squad. It does also bother the sh*t out of me that yet again one of our more experienced senior players has questioned the ambition of the club. When fans knock players for commenting on the off pitch aspects of the club it has always p*ssed me off because players like freddie are winners and want to be part of a team/club that are challenging for honours and do not want to accept 2nd best. He will know along with several experienced players at the club if the squad we have left is capable of winning leagues and he obviously agrees with a large section of the fans when he doesnt believe the squad is strong enough. I know some fans will point to him moving tp the shammers contradicting his thirst for honours but he moved there to play games regularly which he may not have done with us. How long are the supporters of the current board going to believe that the club is going in the right direction under their stewardship ?
After wenger's comments last week about not buying another striker I believed that we would buy another player but I am no longer sure that 1 player will be enough. The nearer it gets to the start of season the more worried I get that rvp will not be able to carry the burden as our No.1 striker because he will no longer get the time and space he got in the past while opposition defences watched henry. God I hope arsene is lining up queresma but more likely to be a player of calibre of matt taylor

Sour grapes or dose of reality

Cheers for the great years Freddie but the last 3 have been very poor. Fantastic player but for me it ended in 2004. The injuries and loss of form have caught up with him.

By my reckoning we now need 4 players. I know we wont get them but with Reyes going as well we are left with the bare husk of a squad. To all those Hleb haters sorry boys u are going to be seeing a lot of him.

My massive problem with all this is morale. Just how will we start the season and how will the crowd react when everything is so low.

Just been reading the history of this post to catch up.

I think our squad is to small this season.

What will our bench look like this season, will there be players on it that you think can come on and "Change" a game.

Correct me if I am wrong but Berty is the champion in the team unless you go some years.

but I think RVP will hit 15-20 or more this season if he gets a good run in the team.

In the game against Man U when he done his foot, he just ghosted in at the backpost to just divert the ball into the net, he did the same thing in the last friendly. For me a striker that can Steal goals like this, While still having the class to beat players and score from outside the box, is gonna do well. He smeeded to be almost overlooked last season as AW wanted to build understanding between TH and the ade.

I am an RVP fan though, mabye Rosiky can get some goals from midfield this season, he looked dangerous last season, but he needs to be in the center more, and that creates a problem becuase cesc and berty operate their unless we go to 3 up top.

I can't understand why he bought Sagna before buying a goal scoring midfielder or a striker. We have so much strength in defence, I mean even Traore looks the business and he is unlikely to play in many games other than in the Carling Cup.

So far Wenger has made a profit on the transfer market this summer, a complete contrast to the 'super super signings' he promised.

Whilst I dont want a bunch of random forwards coming to the club for the sake of it, becuase it would destroy the dynamic that Wenger has been building up for the past couple of years, the fact is we need goals or we are going to achieve nothing this year and if you think that there is a midfielder who is going to score over 15 goals or a striker that is going to score over 20 then you are kidding yourselves

That's not what i couldn't understand.

What i couldn't understand was the price but maybe we had to pay that to beat other teams to his signiture

Yeah agreed.

I mean don't get me wrong, he looks a good player but I don't understand why he was signed before a goalscorer. Everyone seems to agree that we are going to struggle for goals this season, I'm really baffled over it all.

Last year we had Henry, RVP, Ade, Walcott, Baptista, Aliadiere. Now say what you want about Aliadiere and Baptista but that is a much stronger line up than RVP, Ade, Walcott, Bendtner and Eduardo. And don't forget we didn't win anything last year.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Everybodys arguements are so full of ifs buts and maybes!

Last year we came fourth by a distance!

We scored 20 odd goals less than the champions!

Our record goalscorer captain and talisman has left!

What do you honestly expect fronm the season ahead?

Scream at me all you like and call me a miserable bastard!

But the reality of it is I would snatch fourth place out your hand now if offered!

Gus mate, we will finish fourth don't worry about that. The quality of our football is too good for us to finish anywhere else.

We will also do well in the Carling Cup again...

...but that is it I'm afraid. Unless Wenger finally get's his cheque book out.

This is what you get when you have Gilles Grimandi as a senior club scout (although I did like Grimandi as a player, constistent/loyal and versatile.)

!!

Thanks for your optimism Greg but a top four place is guaranteed how?

You all know me by now I adore Arsenal!

That does not mean though I cant be realistic and say I think we are in for a struggle! This may be the end of an era and that may be Arsene has not go one more team in him! The third generation may just be that step too far!

God I hope Im wrong but if someone can show me more positives than negatives right now I would be very suprised!
