GOONER name copyrighted by club

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

All joking aside I want to hear comments from the contributers on this forum that have been talking shite over the last few months saying what a great board we have !   This c*nts could not and would not organise a piss-up in a brewery and yet again have shown what little regard they have for us fans. I laugh when I hear fans talk about "the Arsenal way" or about holding the traditions of the club dear cos it is total bollox - over the last few years they have changed the crest(money making scheme),moved stadium(understandable), fucked about with the colours of our kits(in keeping with herbert chapman of course) & now this bullshit and when you add it to the fact that our ticket prices are the dearest in europe it tells you what this board are all about. Personally I wouldnt piss on any of these c*nts if they were on fire

On a serious note.

The magazine and forum are able to prove a 'pre-existance' to the copyrighting procedure and therefore should not have any problem continuing to use the name. Additionally, if they were to launch a counter-bid to copyright it themselves then a judgement could easily fall in their direction as they have a proven history of using the name.

Wouldn't it be great if the club had to pay 'The Gooner' to use their name.
Edelman and co would turn themselves inside out with rage.

They'd probably come up with a naff new nick name for the fans. We'd end up with merchandise with "The Cannon's" or "The Herd" on it!

Gooner was never their word. It was always the fans' word. :|

Correct - the term gooner was used as an insult by spud fans against us - goon + gunner = gooner. We adopted the name.

Er... correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding was that the group that broke away from our original hooligans The Herd, called themselves Gooners as in; a crowd of goons, and a play on the word Gunner. :?

The word then just came into common usage amongst football fans in general when the whole hooligan thing calmed down....?

gratins fellow gooners, so the question of this edelman character, i think he's being really croquette trying to make more wedge by sauteing his way in stealing our word just so he as more crisp £10 notes for the gnoccing shop, the way he treats us sometimes you'd think he was one of the tiny totts if the gooner could pre empt him by copyrighting the word first then that would be sweet

sorry i'm yammering on
