:D

The term Boomer relating to Oklahoma refers to participants in the "Boomer Movement," white settlers who believed the Unassigned Lands were public property and open to anyone for settlement, not just Indian tribes. Their reasoning came from a clause in the Homestead Act of 1862, which said that any settler could claim 160 acres (0.65 km2) of public land.[3] Some boomers entered and were removed more than once by the United States Army.

Pikeys!!!! :D
eh wikipedia...

The terms "boomer" and "sooner" refer to those participating in the Oklahoma land runs. They would open up acres of space and let people stake their claim on a first come first serve basis. There was a starting line and once the starting shot was fired people would literally race to find the best land available. The people who waited for the shot were called "boomers" and the people that cheated and left before the start were labeled "sooners".

Being that the land runs were a big part of Oklahoma history the University of Oklahoma wanted to choose either "boomers" or "sooners" as their nickname. They left it up to the student body at the time and the students voted for "sooners" (I've been told just because it sounded better more than any actual historical meaning).
Not a lot of people knew that

Now,can some one explain why the University of Manchester's nickname is C**TS

Welcome, and may I recommend "rebels for the cause" by john spurling, as an excellent read and an insight into what makes "The Arsenal" different from other football clubs.

Welcome mate, as someone who often goes to the US and watches the lads there, I will probably be a fucking pest asking you where to watch the game.

Good to have you.. :barscarf:

texas sucks. boomer sooner
Don't know what boomer sooner means (I skimmed the wiki definition someone cut and pasted on this page), but Texans generally suck. Of all the septics I've met, Texans have been the rudest (and generally the widest) :barscarf: :barscarf:

technically when used together "boomer sooner" doesn't really mean anything. its just a chant we do.

as for texans...there is a big rivalry between the states of Oklahoma and texas. they are arrogant pricks.

i will try to find "rebels for the cause". thanks for the recomendation goonersid.

Seriously welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy being on here as much as the rest of us do (most of the time anyway  ).

Assume being a yank you are a gridiron fan too ? You will be surprised how many of us nfl fans there are on here so we will all have a good old debate about that as well 8)

He couldn't be could he?

If he hates Texas he can't support the Cowboys and the next nearest team geographically is Kansas (?)

Must just follow the college game.

i watch a little nfl but i follow the college game much more closely. college football is a lot more fun to follow than nfl. the crowd atmosphere is much better as well.

as big of an Oklahoma Sooners fan as i am though i am a bigger Arsenal fan. Arsenal results pretty much decide how my week goes...yep, all sanity has been lost

can someone explain to me what a jcl is by the way?
