glory hunting parents
they moved to Islington in summer of 71
parties going on up and down the street so they started supporting the Arse
and cursed us to win nothing for years and years
I started going v young, 8ish in the mid 80s, and went to see men swear and fight
was more interested in the crowd than the game
maradonna in 86 actually got me into football proper
still love him
going regularly to THOF : Highbury slowly corrupted me and I ended up another Gooner without even realising

I should have been a West Ham fan, aunt and uncle were West Ham season ticket holders, used to get me their kit every Christmas hated it, the colours, everything.
Lived in W Ham terriority as well, but just loved The Arsenal, their name, their badge and their colours (also the names of their (our) players in the mid seventies) First game 1976, when we were pretty dire... but still loved it. Bitten by the bug and been smitten ever since.

Grew up in Colindale in North London. Family friend took me to Highbury when was about 7 and I was hooked.
Just a wee story:
We moved out of our house when i was 10 - on the day before the 1979 final!! Had to take down all the posters and decorations had been putting up for weeks for the final. Also was a real bummer cos where we lived all the travelling fans coaches used to pass by the top of our road on way to Wembley every year, and had been really looking forward to it. Plus to make it worst of ALL, we were supposed to be booked to sail to Ireland on the Saturday so was going to miss FA Cup final - complete disaster for a little Gooner nut like i was.
Funny thing was that me Dad got booking date wrong so we werent sailing til the Sunday. We had to stay with friends for Friday n Saturday night, so got to see the amazing 3 minute Final !! Thanks Dad !!

It's a family affair for me. Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts and my Dad were all Gooners.
Funnily enough it was one of those typical Arsenal moments that sealed the deal for me at 8 years old. My brother was a Liverpool fan along with most of the kids at school and the rest were Spurs fans. 88 League Cup final and we lose to Luton. Fucking Luton. The stick going round the playground was epic. But it made me more determined to stand by the club. And after that I knew I'd always be a Gooner.
Then about 15 years later I used to drink in the same boozer as that *word censored* Stein's half brother. I'll never be able to shake Luton from my memory.
