I have to say that although it may not come across that way but I have a massive amount of respect for the job that the police do. I also agree that the majority of them are good professionals.
What I do not agree with is that they are unanswerable to no one. When they make mistakes they should be punished on the same terms as anyone. They should not be protected more than anyone else in a court of law also. And just because they are officers of the law does not mean they are immediatley innocent.
My main problem is that just because they are police....MAINLY THE RIOT POLICE its seems they are justified to use unnessesary violence. And mashed potato is rite, when they are given unrealistic orders by the goverment things are bound to turn ugly. BUT where is these guys natural humanity, and its true we're lucky over here just look at the way the french evicted those women and children the day before yesterday. But its no excuse.
Yes the MAJORITY do a great job. but the minority should not be unaswerable to their mistakes.

CIG - mate, if you'd tried that in Dublin you'd be in hospital now! Oirish cops do not hesitate to wade in, but some of them are decent enough, until you push the button, then you are getting slapped.
Personally I've found the British police (and I'm talking about the cop in the street, not the detectives that frame innocent Oirishmen!
) to be mostly decent lads.
I've a good mate that's in the Met and the stories he tells of the shit the average copper has to put up with are amazing TBH.
Like any job, there are good people and there are crunts. We cannot tar them all with the same brush.

Check out todays Sunday Mirror. There is good and bad everywhere. Only here the bad side very rarely the good. As soon as the guy in Northumbria topped himself the 1st questions asked were what could the police have done different.
