C'mon lads, for me the board have done a good job with the club and while are far from perfect are grossly under-appreciated IMO considering the position numerous other clubs find themselves in, and of course AW is also included in the off-field context too as it pretty much goes without saying that the manager is THE most important appointment at a football club and in AW we have the world's best!!!

Yes, there are greater tacticians such as Mourinho etc. and Taggart's achievements cannot be over-estimated altho aided by huge financial superiority over everyone else until RA changed the balance of power which these rules are trying to redress, but AW for me is still the best all-rounder and couldn't have arrived at a better time to transform the club and it's profile as the Prem became the world's most watched league due in no small to him directly, make us a established CL club and then to steady the ship in the most tumultuous financial times that football has ever known!

AW always was playing the long game and while I'm sure not even he or us wanted to go so long without silverware I simply am not as critical as some on here because what he is trying to do regarding the team with the academy as it's bedrock is worth doing and what he and the board have already done off the pitch means you have to takes steps back in order to move forward!

Also, does everyone on here that are beginning to or have in fact a long time ago, lost faith in AW or the board or both just choose to ignore the absolutely stupendous amounts of money spent by Chavski that even had Ferguson with his then seemingly bottomless pockets worried instantly and he was subesquently thoroughly vindicated and now City too has him moaning again as he realises that their massive gate and merchandising machine no longer provide the financial superiority that he used against others including us when he broke about 10 British and world transfer records in the space of as many years at least one of which still stands today!

AW and the board have a huge responsibilty with the wellbeing of the club and everything it's means to the community in their hands and I find it hard to criticise them for not taking risks with it, that's not to say I don't, I think all Gooners are suffering a bit of frustration lately! But if you take stock you realise that some of that is purely as a result of coming down off the heady days of the Invincibles etc, and I honestly would not swap places with any other club in the Prem!

The only other club I envy is ManU, the club we love to hate and us vs them is still Sky's top of the bill fixture in the Prem, they have a history, an impressive core fanbase and a trophy haul to die for but even they have now been sullied by massive corporate debt and unsold season tickets due to the Glazer affair and altho Chelsea have unbelieveable resources off the pitch and are currently awesome on it they have ZERO class and City are a joke, so fuck that happenin to Arsenal, bought titles are MEANINGLESS and I just hope it doesn't happen to us in my lifetime!

So anyway to end, I know it pisses the more pessimistic members off when they hear, "oh you want us to be the new Leeds eh, very smart" but what about L'pool??? they didn't take unwarranted risks, everything about that club should be better than ours, their history and trophy haul is better than ours, their fanbase is bigger than ours, in Stanley Park and a submissive local council they have a readymade site for a brand new super-stadium without the logistical nightmare that our board had to navigate and yet their fans must be in complete and utter despair, bedlam in the boardroom, a debt that has long since gone toxic, no stadium, no Premiership EVER  a woeful team being carried by the only 3 decent players at the club possibly whittled down to just one as Pepe Reina becomes the saviour, with Torres looking a shadow of his former self and Gerrard looking resigned to his fate - and to add insult to injury their hated rivals will probably in terms of trophies soon disappear over the horizon never to be caught again!

What about Liverpool, Belfast Boy? Are you suggesting that had their ownership not irresponsibly sold out to a takeover group utlizing debt leverage which has been put on the club's books that they would be in the exact same position they are in now and for the excat same reasons they are in it?

That is an absolutely critical question for us as well as them not only in terms of investment philosophy but in terms of what happens to Arsenal going forward in terms of ownership. I think you are absolutely right to point out what is happening at Liverpool, but I'm afraid you do so for the wrong reasons.

simple answer - just limit a club to £25m per transfer window and that will stop Chelsea, Man City, Barca & Real madrid spending £100m +

It's simple and answer and probably a sensible one - but it won't get through. The big clubs will fight it and if they don't it's because they have already found ways around it

Why is he wrong to point out what's happening at Liverpool? They're in a shit, no new stadium, millions in debt, losing further ground on and off the field to the big teams. Compared to them we're managed wonderfully well, get that into your thick and be grateful for everything that's happened over the past few years you mug :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

That's not eaxctly saying he was wrong to point out the situation at Liverpool, is it?

The last I read saying you were absolutely right is the opposite of saying you are wrong. Unless they have redefined the meaning of of the term absolutely right I think you have not read or understood what I posted

What I did say after that is that he made the right point for the wrong reasons. The point about Liverpool's situation is the peril of Arsenal possibly being sold to owners using debt leverage to purchase the club, and facing similar or even worse difficulties.

I'm sorry but maybe it's the people who want to view everything about Arsenal in the under-informed over-simplified context in which you viewed my comment who are the mugs here.

Yes better to have a shit club than a lousy thread - if that in fact were the case about this thread.

I'll say no more to you because I won't let you claim I ruined this thread and frankly dealing with you is a waste of time and energy.

Seeing as we still make a transfer profit every season how exactly is that proposal going to help us ? :?

Secondly I will say that it is good to see you posting again BB even if I cannot concur with your sentiments. You ask if we realists/pessimists/critics have lost sight of the outragous amounts of money that have been spent by the chavs and man shitty and you remind us that our board have a huge responsibility for the wellbeing of the club in their hands but to me that is missing the point - we are not in the chavs/shitty's financial league and we know that but we should be in the next league down but instead find ourselves being financially outmuscled by the scum, villa, brum and even stoke ffs   This board and/or manager is handicapping us and our hopes of success every single fcuking season by selling more than we buy, refusing to strengthen key area's with quality players and by gambling on too many unproven players :x

Again I will point out that there is little point in citing the scousers problems without highlighting the fact that they had a *word censored* spending money on shit players left, right and centre which I would again suggest that this is the opposite end of the spectrum to what we are looking for. It is very very hard to believe that the board are not factoring in the value of a potential windfall for themselves when they sell those shares is it ? So far we have seen our main shareholder (and supposed guardian  ) take advantage of the rising share prices to sell quite a few to his american buddy in a move that can not be just swept away with an innocent excuse.

You refer to the unfair comparisons of this squad to the exceptional 2004 squad and that is a very fair point. However why dont we cast our net further back and ask ourselves how many of this team would be a starter ahead of the players in wenger's 1st full season in charge (98 double season). To be quite honest I would be quite confident in saying that only cesc for sure would get into that team while tv5 and rvp might be there or thereabouts :( We now find ourselves comparing, unfavourably, this squad with a team that was largely built pre wenger and that is also an arguement by those of us critics.......wenger built this club up to previously unseen heights but is now rapidly dragging the club down to the level in which he found it all those years ago and I firmly believe that as long as he remains in charge the outlook will not change

Under-informed? Over-simplified? Debt falling, world-class stadium in place generating cash, we're doing fine you idiot, you're just some stupid WUM JCL who got on the bandwagon late and now want to moan about everything just because a couple of things haven't gone our way recently, please fuck off to American football and leave us in piece. Oh and calling anyone who disagrees with you dishonest, bad people and under-informed and not caring (especially when they've grown up near to the club than you, go to games, watch the team week in and week out and have more of an idea about football and the club than you) isn't a good idea for making friends on a forum to back your petition! :D

P.S: Sorry if anyone is offended by the 'super-fan' stuff at the end. Needed to vent. Rant over.

Because, unless i'm mistaken, this is Belfast Boy's first long post on this topic. He hasn't created several other threads covering the same post, and he hasn't hijacked other threads either. Therein lies the difference if you want the truth. It's got nothing to do with the length of a post.
