Oh that's right - that's what it's about. I'm a Yank. You would be no different if I were born and raised on Avenell Road so don't pretend otherwise. You don't care as you said about what the Board even if it hurts the club and don't use me an excuse for that fact about how you choose to be thank you. Makes you seem incapable of thinking and choosing for yourself. And if that isn't the case than you simply choose not to care about those issues no matter who is discussing them.

BY the way if your grandparents thought round WW2 like this you would be DER EISVERKAUFER 29 now. Guess us no good two-bob yanks were good for something after all

BTW you aren't suggesting that if my name were UKMartin you would actually agree with my positions and be more concerned about what is going on are you?

Actually, you were good for surprisingly little. By the time the US decided to enter the war and actually help us, Hitler had already turned his attention to the Eastern front and Russia. We had already weathered the Blitz and the best that the German war machine could throw at us and really only had Doodlebugs left to look forward to - if we are being overly simplistic.

Indeed some Americans DID help us when we actually needed it, i.e. the Battle of Britain, but they did so regardless of the fact that the US Government threatened to revoke their citizenship. Decent people they were to fly in the face of their government and nation and help us. Even then there were probably only about 20 or so.

The US only entered the war when it suited them, when we had stood alone when the rest of Europe had fallen, and still contributed very little man power - a fair amount of whom were actually were trained over here by the British Army and not in the camps like Band of Brothers.

Cheers for the help and all but it was not as great as many Americans like to believe...

Yes- Britain would have beaten Germany and Japan by themselves - what was I thinking?

It's irrelevent anyway - I think my point stands, and as I can say with absolute confidence that if were UKMartin or N5Martin you still wouldn't care anymore than you don't care now because as you said you just don't care about these matters at this point.

Stop making excuses for why you choose not to care because that suggests maybe its the wrong thing to do, and surely you don't think...

Japan was kinda your war, not ours.

...and let's not forget the Russians reached Berlin first. Hitler had already got bored with attacking us and given up.

The Russians would have probably won it anyway if you hadn't turned up at all in all honesty so yeah we may well have done it sans US involvement.

Also, I tried not to be sarcastic in my reply so I would have hoped that you weren't either. I wasn't trying to turn it into an argument - just stating facts I have learnt.

Also also, I have no problem with your nationality but remember that football clubs are steeped in localised communities. It can still be jarring that an American might be bothered to be interested in our sport in some ways.

Also also also, fuck the scousers.

Fisrt off an apology - I assumed you were Iceman - so I was abit more flippant than I might have been otherwise about these matters in replying and I humbly apolgize for that.

It was not my intent to debate World War Two nor is it now, and I agree which much you point out although I hardly believe as magnificently and courageously as Britain fought before and after our entry into the war I sincerely doubt Britain could have survived indefinitely on its own without the U.S. entry into the war for simply lacking the resources to survive on its own whether a state of war existed or not after 1940.

I will only add beyond that that Britain's survival had simply you and the Russians beaten Germany was hardly assured as without our role in post-war Europe, surely the Iron Curtain would have then extended well beyond East Germany and England at best would have stood alone again again a Soviet-controlled continent instead of a Nazi-controlled continent for the same reasons I noted earlier.

But as I say that is irrelevant and while I appreciate your points about what can motivate that sort of nationalist attitude. I don't think that is the issue either. As I said Iceman would feel no differently if my name were UKMartin or N5Martin because he just doesn't feel that same concern period. I simply brought up the subject to point out how its wrong to pick and choose when you like us and want us about and abit ungrateful. Again I apolgize for my earlier reply. I did not see that it came from you and incorrectly took it to be from Iceman. I seek no argument or debate about a war from well before I walked this earth either :barscarf:

Fair play to you Marty boy. I basically HATE the 'you'd be speaking German if it weren't for us' brigade that many Americans seem to belong to - at least many that I personally have met! Then again these tend to be the ones who go into a pub and sit down and wait to be served...or who try to engage in conversation a member of staff in a chain pub...

Yes, this isn't about the Second World War and all fought valiantly and with an equally important part to play. I hadn't thought about the aftermath and the Cold War and that is a very valid point which I submit to. However I will stick on the point that Britain didn't do too badly on our own so cheers for acknowledging that. I think we are both lucky we didn't have to live through it.

I'm not sure what my view on the board is to be honest. I think I am happy with things at the moment with a plurality of ownership and yes I would not be happy if a takeover attempt was made by any of our shareholders. Definitely not as a leveraged buyout However, I suppose I am also willing to play the waiting game and see. I am not a Wenger fan but neither am I a Wenger hater. I just sort of accept he is our manager and one day he won't be.

I will tell you one thing I feel strongly about though. Tom bloody Fox. I wish he would go and 'grow' some other 'brand'. Can't stand him! Ignorant tosser. He has no clue about football.

Up the Arsenal and all that :barscarf:

Well I'm not one pf those yanks - or those other yeanks either. I just get annoyed at people who try to dismiss my views because I'm not English as though that really determies whether what you say is actually correct or not. Like "Since you as a yank said it's raining, even though in fact its a monsoon I say it is sunny because you're a yank" logic

The U.S. could not have won certainly not as quickly or without much greater sacrifice over German or Japan without Engalknd and Russia and the many other allies who fought alongside us - and you as well - in both theatres. Let's not kid ourselves. All I can add is as you say Thank God we did not have to live through that awful period and to those here who who did or whose families did my deepest gratitude and symapthy.

It's very difficult we all want to believe that as in the past everything is being done the right way form the right reasons, and there is a lot to suggest that is still the case, but there is also a lot to suggest that is not the case now and its hard to becertain of what to believe because as much as we know there is much we still don't know. I simply ebieve that because there are reasons to be concerned we should want to know more. Obviously there are some who don't think the same way even with those concerns in mind.

I've seen that giant telescope in Birr. No need for a radar with that thing. You'd see Jerry from miles off.

However, yes we will leave you out of it. Britain has put you through enough throughout the centuries!
