It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

oh yes we went 1 nil up against your lot, and then your own fans started a riot.

Would you like some ketchup with that?

RoI and the home countries are rivalled only by s***s in terms of bitterness.
Can't agree with that bolded bit, mate. Most (even the die hard) RoI fans are fairly happy go lucky. They love to hate Engerland (but 99% of them support an Engerlish team). It's all tongue in cheek. Only a minority of mongos have any real hatred (the same as in any other country).
DB's summed it perfect. There's a large majority that will cheer for the opposition against England but as he says it's tongue in cheek.

Personally I like to see them doing well but I lived in the England for a considerable time and I understand how decent the English people are towards us Irish.

I think the situation that arose a few years back at Croke Park summed up Ireland v England in it's present format. Equal respect when the chips are down.
Wasn't that ruggers?

England "punch above their weight".

Anyway, just because a player is born somewhere else doesn't mean they see themselves as from there. Kilbane is English born, but is as Irish as anybody, he really is. Called himself Irish growing up etc.

Now we know for a fact O'Hara and Nolan don't do this and thus won't be welcomed into the squad. Also the fact that neither are worth a shite, is also to do with it.

Wayne Rooney is half Irish, could have declared for Ireland. Hargreaves is Canadian. Barnes is Jamaican etc, you lot can't look down on us.
You start off with a good point and then fuck it up with a shit generalisation.

Hargreaves I believe has English parents but born in another country - Kilbane has Irish blood but was born in another country. What's the fucking difference? Cos you know Kilbane calls himself "Irish" and Hargreaves speaks with a Canadian accent? Does Kilbane put a fake "oirish" accent on?

:banghead:
You completely missed the point there. As you said "what is the fucking difference?"

That is the point. Looking down on the Ireland team when England do the same thing.

Having "Zinedine" Kilbane in your national team is nothing to boast about, mate. O'Hara and Nolan on the other hand are decent players and are better than anything Oireland have got. They could really help the tarmacers qualify for a tournament again, something they've struggled to do since they got rid of all the Engerland rejects.

We qualified in 2002, and should have qualified in 2010. We would have made a better job than England who disgraced themselves once again on the international stage. It was all a good laugh though watching the Algerian amateurs embarrass England, then the first decent side Germany destroy them.

Irish prisons are equipped with state-of-the-art computers, consoles, 15mB broadband and a direct telephone line to the outside

I honestly don't think we would have done as bad as France/ England.

The actual level of international football is so low, that we could easily have made the QFs IMO, even though our team is not great either.

I'm coming across as defensive here, but PHP is just trolling here looking for a bite.

Edited:

I don't think England don't do the same thing, and due to history are just not in the same position as Ireland. It's not about the likes of Kilbane - it's about the likes of people who are brought up with little cultural experience of Ireland, and don't know a good goat from a good woman

Ireland's Kilbane is England's Hargreaves - Nolan, O'Hara and Noble and others who haven't declared a desire to play for Ireland, have much cultural knowledge of the country, if they did play for Ireland would have few parallels - and if they have with England - then I'm against them, as I would be for any player.

I come to this with an idea of criteria for who, for whatever country, in whatever sport, should be playing for a national side. As an example, England's cricket team leaves alot to be desired. 8)
