As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Now if there is in fact no money available then Wenger should simply say so. As for the wages policy I don't think this necessarily needs to change to attract players to the club, true pros want success as much as money.
What a new manager would bring is fresh ideas, tactics and hope, all things that we are devoid of at present.
We may not get the right man at the first time of asking but we would be getting rid of the wrong man presently in the hotseat.
As I said the key thing here is Wenger's reluctance to spend rather than his hands being tied by the board.
You can argue otherwise, but we can only go on what the club have consistently claimed ie "transfer funds are available".
And because they have said that it has to be true? If you caught your best friend and gilrfriend in bed naked together and they said that they weren't betraying you would just assume that is true because they said it?
All sacking the manager would do now without new spending polciies is delude supporters and I mean no ffense here like yourself into believing things will or at least might change when logic tells us they certainly will not change for the better. You are just giving the Board an excuse to cheat you out of the happiness you fdeserve and so badly want that it piushes you to staing you hate the man primarily responsible for more success on the pitch - when he had the Board's proper support - than any man since Herbert Chapman really.
You hate him is what you said I believe and that you hate some of his players. You might be right to not be happy with them or not want them here but to hate them and give the Board who is proffitting from their failings a free pass is just sad. Like kicking a dog rather than the man you should be kicking because its easier.
The thing is US they have said it and Wenger the very man you are defending has never denied it. So your defence has no grounds and your arguement pure conjecture.
I'm not going to get involved in one of your epic debates as I have a hangover and it's almost time to go home.
Nah, we will still finish top 4 which is what makes the whole thing so frustrating. The board are happy with a top 4 finish and until we drop out I suspect nothing will change. Next season we'll have a similar one to the current season where we again challenge a bit then flatter to deceive but still finish top four, which takes us to the season after and rinse repeat...the cycle continues.
goonersid wrote:I think the question we should be asking ourselves is "can we fuck up a top 4 finish"? the answer most definitely being yes.
With Kos and Squillachi looking likely to be our CB pairing for a while to come (anyone believing TV will be back soon will be disappointed), Al only an injury away from being back between the sticks and a morale crushing heavy loss to Barca pending, it could well happen.
Add to this our awful home form, the spuds grinding out results and the mousers new found belief and I don't think a top 4 finish is by any means guaranteed.
This is why Wenger will now be praying that he can win the tinpot carling cup, he can then use that as this seasons "success".
So I am going to say it and you can all slate me for not being a "true fan" But if I ask myself in all honesty "do I want us to win the Carling Cup? Then the answer is probably NO.
Enough is enough, and I don't care what misfortune or failure we have to endure, if the means finally justify the ends and we are rid of this lying, pathetic excuse of a man.

I'm afriad this is correct and will comtinue as long as they want or need ti to and/or can get away with it.
The problem here is that there is nothing that has been said or done to indicate that anything woiuld change from here under any manager. Indeed the Chairman of our Board recently said form basically the sixth year running that the Board - or at least the Chairman of the Board - do not care if we win nothing again this year. Again - six years running - they do not care if we win nothing. I didn't say it - Mr. Peter Hill-Wood said it - again. And again and again and again and again and...
What's really sad is looking at posts like Sid's and seeing how he just wants hope for change that would come with a new manager. Well what happens when the transfer window goes by and nothing good happens and the season starts and nothing changes? Start calling the new man blind deluded stubborn and senile? Marvel at how the Board has such rotten luck finding men willing to spend the money they make available, and how every manager they find doesn't want to win by spending more money than we are?
How long are we going to let the Board just take us and our trust in them for granted and even use it to get away with things we would never accept otherwise?

Well go on home then and have a good rest. But this will wait for you for tommorrow....
You have avoided my question here. Do you believe it just because they have said it?
And what do you expect the manager to say when he will get sacked and lose probably the easiest managing job there is and a lot of money at that?
Are you that confident that if he did get the sack or walked away under pressure that he wouldn't have something different to say then? Better still are you that confident the Board would be able to disprove it? Are you confident they can do more than say the money is there, because we all know the money is there - that hardly shows any proof that it - any of it - being available to spend. A millionaire can still buy cheap clothes. Malcolm Glazer is known for that.
I think sid might have lost it......you dont want us to win the carling cup
And after GAINING a point on utd, your questioning wheter we'll finish top 4
I find it amazing that so may on here seem kind of worried that we're going to win a trophy. Because they're worried what the "rosetinters" will say Some people take the whole "rosetinter/realist" rubbish way to far.
"Fucking Wenger how dare he manage us to a trophy"
Just thought I'd stick my two penneth in,but in
reply to USM, I'm pretty sure the vast majority
of Arsenal fans know that the board are a bunch
of money grabbing fuckwits, but (and its a big but)
no matter how much you're given to spend, the man
responsible for a team crosing those white lines onto
the pitch is the manager, responsible for selection, motivation,
tactics, conduct everything about being a footballer
reprensenting Arsenal FC.

Tino I might buy that except for the history of that man in this instance - which is to say you cannot ignore the financial policies here, as the coincide entirely with the success of the team from 1998-2005 and from 2006.
The point being that no matter who the manager is that will continue as long as those policies continue and those telling themselves they will simply change when there is a new manager are setting themselves up for continued disappointment frustration confusion and heartache so long as they let the Board continue to persist with these polcies without question.
I've just watched MOTD again (I've deleted it this time to stop putting myself through the same torment again). I didn't watch the Arsenal goals. I just watched from that Barton "tackle" onwards. I admit I got it wrong. I thought at first that the tackle was fair but hard. But that's bollocks isn't it. Barton should have gone.
I was wrong as well about the first penalty. It was a fucking joke! And don't get me started on the Nolan sending off that wasn't or the second penalty which no-one has managed to explain why it was given.....or the Rosisky "foul" that led to the equaliser. If anything the free kick should have been ours. The whole thing was a joke from half time onwards and best forgotten! I wonder whether those who are proclaiming afirmation of all that is wrong with Arsenal did actually bother to watch it.....
We contributed to our own downfall on Saturday but some of the comments on here are so far over the top its untrue.....we were cheated out of the three points plain and simple!

Sorry but I don't think you can just be cheated out of a four-goal lead against anyone let alone a side playing in a lower divison last year.
Think its more accurate to say that if not for Dowd Newcastle never has a chance to be in position for us to let them back in, but we let them back in plain and simple.
Yeah, 2 nil up on Spurs......lost
2-1 up on Wigan with them down to 10 men with 5 mins to go....drew
2-1 up on Sunderland going into injury time after a missed pen.....drew
And that's just this season!!
Wigan away when 2 nil up, Spurs at the grove, this team has a history of freaks. No leaders, no spine, no guts will mean you better prepare yourself for a whole lot more days like Saturday.
Well said
Also it isnt USMartin that ruins threads like this with his obsession with the board its the posters that reply to him prolonging his obsession and our misery
