'The Poznan'
Agreed - like there's some sort of badge of honour or trophy for having the best singing. A song befitting of little clubs, hence its place in the Little Club Charter.TheCook wrote:'You're support is fucking shit' is without doubt THE WORST song doing the rounds at the moment.
I usually find it gets sung by the same teams that also enjoy:
Same old Arsenal always cheating (how grown men can sing that words fail me)
Eee-aye, eee-aye, eee-aye-O, Up the football league we go
Fook all, you're gonna win fook all
Ing-er-lund, Ing-er-lund, Ing-er-lund (although surprisingly muted since last Summer

If that's what "creating an atmosphere" and "good support" is supposed to entail, then I must be the worst fan in the ground
whats pissing me off almost as much as the wankerish "your support is fucking shit" (which some of our lot sang to Plymouth in the championship when they brought 400 for a tuesday night match which was actually a canny effort) is the current trend for "catchy" chants, specifically the cant get enough and sloop john b chants. Both decent enough in their own way, but not when every fucking set of fans starts singing them
Songs (to nursery rhymes and the likes) should be rare and only sung if original, chants should be more common and sang for long periods, but also nowadays stadiums just lack noise. When we were at Roker, the "Roker Roar" was famous, but it wasnt chanting or singing or "your support is fucking shit", it was just the lads from the mines and shipyards shouting in support of the team after a hard week at graft. That pure passion and noise is what is missing as much as actual chants. As mentioned before, the Emirates is actually (believe it or not) better than most grounds for that. When Arsenal went forward against Sunderland this season there was a very loud "buzz" around the ground which was impressive. There werent many songs/ chants, but the noise when attacking was good, need more of that

Gooners were singing it at WHL a few weeks ago, to my exasperation, just before the equalising goal, naturally.SteveO 35 wrote:Agreed - like there's some sort of badge of honour or trophy for having the best singing. Personally, I think 'We're Man United, we'll do what we want' is brilliant, because they're only singing what their manager and players are thinking.
Agree with all of that. I know "good old Arsenal" is a bit old fashioned but at least its fucking ours. Personally just mimicking shit like "you're support is fucking shit" isn't anything to do with supporting a team. At a lot of the away games I used to attend, fans would make up songs to fit the occasion and they would usually be hilarious and relevant.safcftm wrote:whats pissing me off almost as much as the wankerish "your support is fucking shit" (which some of our lot sang to Plymouth in the championship when they brought 400 for a tuesday night match which was actually a canny effort) is the current trend for "catchy" chants, specifically the cant get enough and sloop john b chants. These days it seems like it's some sort of "our fans are louder than your fans" bullshit, even though all they're actually doing is tripping out the same old songs sung by every team in the land.
I'm no West Ham fan but when they are belting out "I'm forever blowing bubbles"...that to me is what supporting a team is all about. Something is special to a particular team.

Spot on- songs like YNWA and Forever Blowing Bubbles are quality. SAFC used to always sing Can't Help Falling in Love, but for some reason we now dont use it much and a couple of other teams have started using it which is a pain. Songs which are unique to a club are always good- you might not like the song, but at least you associate it with a club. Nowadays the stadiums are identikit plastic bowls, and the fans are identikit plastic wankers either sitting in silence or singing the same shite as every other set of fans. Thats why i love grounds like Craven Cottage, there is so little character left in the PL and thats whats driving fans away. The "your support is fucking shit" type songs are shite (plus, of course, they're sung at the fans who have bothered to travel, so its a bit pointless!)SteveO 35 wrote: Agree with all of that. However much I hate them, Birmingham's "Keep right on" is quality, Ranger's singing "Derry's Walls" and "Build my Gallows" is also quality. "A Soldier's Song" for Celtic, they don't sing it too much though nowadays, and the "forever and ever, we'll follow our team" song sung by quite a few teams is good.
