Better than Walcott??

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Darren bent is a proper striker......theo is a proper sprinter

I just dont get the whole theo up front thing - I watched him v brum at home and he doesnt fcuking know where to run  He has one asset and that is his ability to run onto through balls but apart from that has he anything to offer ? Can he link up play ? Is he a goal poacher that will come alive in the penalty area ? I dont fcuking think so and his ability to hide in games is second to none  If he gets crowded/frozen out of the game so easily on the wing how will he survive in the middle where it is more crowded esp given how we play ?

As much as i'm not a big fan of Theo, i can think of a half a dozen players that need to be sold before he does, our other playing out of position wide man on the opposite flank being top of the list..

I can think of a dozen wide players that i would prefer to both AA and Theo and in most cases they wouldn't cost much more if any more than the sale of those two, but would give us so much more...But i just can't see the manager seeing that, never mind doing it...

Even if he sold Theo we would probably end up banking the money and playing Bendtner wide permanently with his back up being Eboue, even Theo has got to be better than that likely scenario..

Has to be Ashley Young - running his contract down and a boyhood Gooner too.

Available for £12m or so given he's entering the final contract year- we'd get more than that for Walcott.

Sounds like good business (which is precisely why we won't do it)

This is the whole problem everyone can see what the best things to do are, but you just know anything so obvious is beneath Wenger's genius..he'd much rather buy someone no one has ever heard of and hope he turns out OK than buy a sure thing put on a plate for him...

Honestly we could probably dump both our wide men in the summer and bring in Young and the likes of Johnson and it would cost us f*ck all... yet we would be light years ahead of where we are now...

Hate to say it, but he strikes me as an impact sub or role player. Not a starting 11 figure. At times he's clinical in front of goal but it's not consistent enough, and he's pretty shitty at crossing (like much of the team). He gives a great tactical option but asides from that I don't see him ever being the world beater he was intended to be.

That being said, I'd keep him as a handy wildcard.

Anyone think that Pennant with a bit of discipline may have turned out a decent winger for us. All our current "wingers" would prefer to be playing a more central role.

Absolutely - you need to be a more cultured and clever footballer to be a central striker than a winger - something he fails miserably on both counts.

This argument seems to stem from "it worked for TH14" and that's about it. The clear difference being that Henry had already won a World Cup and played at a couple of clubs in the Champions League.
