ARSENAL FIXTURES 2011/12

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

If we get more than 4 points in our opening 3 games I'll be surprised

Do you think Bolton at home would move to the 25th from the 24th Sept as it clashes for me? (probably not if CL match is 27th/28th?)

Fuck me, some people on here are miserable. Get buzzed for it! New season. Newcastle away isn't that tough a game. Nolan's fucked off, Barton will probably be gone. We'll get a result.

The other two, well they're tough but I'ld fancy us to get something out of them. Knowing us we'll win all 3 and then lose to the Welsh at home!

Is there really goign to be a game on New Years Eve? Could be lively!

AUGUST 13 Sat Barclays Premier League A Newcastle United
16/17 Tue/Wed UEFA Champions League - Play-off Round 1st Leg
20 Sat Barclays Premier League H Liverpool
23/24 Tue/Wed UEFA Champions League - Play-off Round 2nd Leg
27 Sat Barclays Premier League A Manchester United

That is shocking! We have to qualify for the Champions League, and we have Newcastle away, Liverpool at home, and then ManU away in those two weeks as well!

So in theory we could be bottom of the League with 0 points and out of the Champions League by the 27th August.

Wonder how many big name players would come to us then with the transfer window closing.

OR...we could have strolled into the Champions League group stages with a 10-0 aggregate win, and be sitting pretty on top of the Premier League with 9 points out of 9, and already have done all our transfer business.

I don't think that's a bad start for us. The great thing about the CL qualifiers is that they provide extra motivation to hit the ground running right from the off.

The only bad thing is that if we do start badly then we could effectively be out of two competitions by the end of August  !

Agreed. August is make-or-break for The Arsenal this season.

Players have to be motivated for the start of this season, otherwise we will be out of the two main comps. by the end of August.

A defeat against Newcastle and then a poor showing in the first CL game and we will be up against the ropes, but of course giving the geordies a good beating and then progressing to the CL group stages and we could have the impetus and the enthusiasm to be 10 points clear of the rest by December in the PL.

Nice of the Premier League to give us Liverpool and Man Utd either side of a CL qualifier.

but fuck it I don't care give us Man Utd, Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool away for the first 4 games cause we are the fucking Arsenal !!!!!!
Hardly the Premier Leagues fault. If we hadn't have finished so poorly we wouldn't have to play a CL qualifier in the first place. Hopefully having a tough start might make Le Professeur do the transfer business early and not drag it out till deadline day before deciding we don't need to buy.

Yeah, that's the one plus to it, he will have to pull his finger out and get his targets nice and early, there will be no settling in period and the pressure is on with the way the season ended.

If he gets the start wrong the whole season could implode as soon as it starts, worst case scenario of not qualifying and getting nothing out of Liverpool and United doesn't bare thinking about.

Why? What possible evidence/belief could you have to make statement?

I'm seriously interested to know, I can only put it down to a huge leap of faith.

To be fair the last time we played United we beat them and the last time we played Liverpool we would have beat them had it not been for a moment of stupidity so I don't think its such a leap of faith.
