Who would you like in Jan

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Wenger must have bought Fabianski for a reason. He may be young but how is he ever gonna become good enough if he doesn't get games? Either send him out on loan or play him I say!

Forget about stepanovs & baptista, if u want a real comparison look at the alex manninger situation - he was a good young keeper bought by wenger that played a huge part in the 97/98 double but was dropped as soon as the self proclaimed safe hands returned thus shattering the boys confidence as he got splinters on his arse for ages after that. Wengers biggest weakness is the goalkeeping situation and has been since he arrived so dont just assume that because wenger bought him he must be good. Again I will make the point that if you claim to be a big club then every once in a while you have to show that you are a big club - that means that when you have a glaring need in the team then you have to be prepared to spend big money to bring in top quality and until I'm proved otherwise I will believe that this is something that both our board and manager are incapable of doing

Only time will tell if Fabianski is good enough but he deserve a chance to prove himself.

Yes, we definitely need a keeper, I will go fucking mental if Almunia isn't dropped soon, BUT as Gus says, we're unlikely to be able to get one of the right quality who isn't cup-tied this season. Jaaskeleinen, Green, Carson, Given, are all very good but none of them are truly excellent. I'm all for spending shitloads on a keeper but I don't see the point blowing a slightly lesser amount in January on one of the not quite good enough candidates.

We need to get Lehmann back in, despite his bullshit. There's no way Fabianski will be ready this season, he needs at least another year, and as we all agree, the very nice Almunia just doesn't cut it.

If Lehmann needs to be moved on because his psycho behaviour can't be checked, then I guess we may have to get someone like Jaaskeleinen in, but my worry would be that this would stop us going out and getting Casillas or Buffon or someone of that quality.

And that was my very question on my almunia/lehamnn thread. If you believe that almunia is not good enough then we need a replacement.

You go for the top guys but they are just not available. Do we then say - ok then, we stay with almunia. That is crazy! We should, AT THE VERY LEAST, be getting someone in (Jaskalainen) that is better than what we have.

Go for the top boy but if not - then at least improve on what we've got.
