Mertesacker Signs

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

i'm delighted. it's a defender with over 70 caps for germany and eight years of first team football in a strong league and he is only 26. from what i hear he is an intelligent player with great positioning as well, and at 6ft6 maybe we can stop defending as a pub team in set pieces.

it's a shame we didn't sign a defensively good leftback like sagna, because if we did i would be glad about our back line.

mertesacker is surely the most exciting signing in this window for me :barscarf:

Please mate, i am excited by the signing of Santos, but you seem to want to hammer him because you have seen him play......can we not judge him ourselves???

Same here. I reckon it's easier to adapt from the Bundesliga than from Ligue 3 or something, or even from Spain. The pace and physicality there is similar to here.

Saw a few people slating him before he signed but I am happy with this. He's a giant, he's at his peak, he's got lots of experience and best of all we don't have to watch gobshite djourou playing evert game. :barscarf:

Don't know about Santos but he can't be worse than Clichy or Gibbs can he? If he puts in solid perormances like Sagna then we can have a solid defense. :barscarf:
