The game where Manuel Almunia gave us a glimpse into the future by charging out of his goal to the corner flag to gift them a goalRugby Gooner wrote:One of the best atmosheres that I experienced at Highbury, was the Arsenal v Man Utd game,February 2005.
I was front row, near the corner,in The North Bank.
It was one of the few times that I heard the whole lot of us singing as we went through the turnstiles.
It all kicked off in the tunnel before the game started, and Graham Poll let Rooney away with all sorts.(He admitted in his autobiography that he should have sent him off).
We lost 2-4,but we were robbed!!!
Have been to many games (a lot mentioned here), but two of my unsung favourites...
Blackburn 0-2 Arsenal 2007
Gilberto sent off after 12 minutes, we didn't cave, stood up tall. Kolo got a header before half time and in the 2nd half I witnessed one of the best goals you will ever see. Thierry picked it up on the left, one two with Cesc before firing it into the top corner, if the ball had kept going it would have hit us. Absolutely incredible.
Boro 1-1 Arsenal 2007
Thierry's last goal for the Arsenal, I love that man.

Been to so many great (and some not so great
) games over the last 21 years.
Standout games?
Good;
Beating the Mousers home and away on the way to the league in 91 (they were the team to beat back then).
2-1 win over the chavs Dec 07 (think it was Cuntley's first game back and Gallas scored our winner!)
FA Cup final v Toon 98
Kanu's hat trick away at the Bridge - The faces on them!
Copenhagen 94 - fantastic piss up, great win against all the odds
Paris 06 - Even though we lost, it was just incredible to finally get there and I had a ticket and we soooo fucking nearly did it. Also one of the best away day piss ups ever. We clocked 28 hours more or less solid drinking. It was also the last away day for our dear mate Trish who died less than a year later and I'll always remember her keeping us going and cheering us all up and reminding us we were The Arsenal that night.
Bad;
4-4 against the scum - after leading 4-2 with only a couple minutes left.
Losing 3-2 to the scum last season after leading 2-0 at half time and not giving them a sniff in the first half. Remember AA23northbank saying something like "we could have a hatful here in the 2nd half" at half time and me saying "at least 5 or 6 mate!".
Paris 06 - to see Sol score and let myself believe it was going to be the greatest "One nil to The Arsenal" ever... to have got so close and then that German arsehole gets himself sent off and TH14 bottles two clear cuts... and Bergkamp's last chance at the only major club honour to elude him is gone... and probably my only chance to see us finally lift that poxy cup is gone... it still haunts me and always will. Probably the only chance we'll ever have to finally win it and it got away right at the fucking end... crushing...
Fuck it, just feel really down now.

I was there when
O'Learys record breaking match a 4-3 win against Norwich
Liverpool home and away in '91
(Plimsoll Arms) Forest beat Liverpool to give us the title in '91 then at the match against united after
Kev Campbell played like Pele and we beat Sheffield Wednesday 7-1
'93 League Cup final
European Super cup both legs against AC Milan in '95
Between 87 and late 90's i cant remember all the games i went to im sure there are a few important ones ive missed
Sampdoria Semi final CWC '95 and then the final
I'll never recover from that
The Semi final we lost (went home and away) against chelsea in the league cup then FA Cup semi final win against Wolves in '98 followed by the win against Everton and the FA Cup final against Newcastle
2003 Final against Southampton
Quite a few home games of the 49 unbeaten run
non Arsenal
Was at the match when Raul scored his 100th goal for Real Madrid a 1-0 win against Celta Vigo
Saw Athletico Madrid beat Real Sociedad on the opening day of the 95-96 season they went on to win the double that season - its around the last time the league wasnt won by Real or the Barcacunts

Yeah, that dive was the real start of my hatred for that cheating fucking scumbag. I can forgive (if not condone) a player making a mistake and taking a stupid dive once. But then it turned out that was his whole game? Fucking prick Comedy Eboue - the only player to wear our jersey that I hated.RVP2 wrote:I'd love it if we could win the CL (seems very very unlikely now), but woulnd't have wanted to win it 1-0 with a goal from a shocking Eboue dive, a 2-0 with a Thierry second mind....that one on one still haunts me, wasn't there though. Not having a ST puts an end to the hope of most final tickets.

Would like to add my last home game at Highbury in the last season there. Against Charlton and we ripped them a new one, prison style!
Was a sad day to be knowing I'd never set foot in the old place again but also a great trip over.
Honestly, I wish we had never left the old girl.
Don't give a fuck about aspirations and new financing and super-duper lovely corporate bowl days out - I loved Highbury. It was a proper old school football ground and had character.
