Upgrading the forum - attn admin, geeks and other users.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Really? I'd just assumed that the forum is so ancient it wouldn't have been set up for touchbb.

The forum currently runs the latest 2nd version of the phpbb. Those who have been using the forum may remember that we actually upgraded to the latest version (3) a few years ago. Some of the regulars kicked-off because a few things changed and as a result we scrapped the upgrade.

Thanks for the offer Tony but we aware of the need to upgrade but there are some more pressing issues on the agenda and before we do go ahead with the upgrade we need to make some decisions on the structure of any future installation. It is definitely on the agenda though and we will get around to it. Our motivation is security so it should be done, the forum regulars though I think in the main do not care about how slick or flash the forum is - they just like the way it works and don't want to see any change so the challenge is to upgrade and keep the majority happy with no big changes.

Hope that makes sense and answers everyone's questions.

Rob.

The 45% get it their way. Must be clique(tm).

Ta for the feedback Rob, maybe someone will unsticky this now, it looks like a decision has been made.

PS If you're thinking about big changes in the future, I think the forum should be more integrated to the Gooner site. With this different look and feel, once you're in the forum, there's no way back to the main site. Probably explains why so many people are stuck here.

I have to use the touchbb app because everytime I press any button on the original, I get a fucking 'would you like to see an app that blah blah' every single time.

Used to bb now and there are no colours, avatars or signatures.... Which is nice cos I don't have to read everyones self promotion!!

Handy if your at work aswell cos it looks like an email

I like touchbb but it doesn't allow smilies or proper quoting which irritates me

The paid version has smilies and the quoting is probably better too but I guess you're a bit like me, too mean to pay the 79c or 50p(?) in your case

I'm not too worried about a massive upgrade really but two features i'd like to see are a quick reply box added at the bottom of threads & the ability to embed youtube videos with tags.

The ability to block users would be cool too. I always think it'd be fucking hilarious if USM, Red Member etc were spending ages typing out posts only for nobody to actually read their views as we'd all blocked them

Forum definitely needs an upgrade, if not then a function to block avatars because some of them on here are an eyesore and they actually stop me from having any real interest in threads.

maybe my head if f*cked though
