This place is shit

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Funnily enough I have! This fella in a pub called Colin told me the same joke 4 times. He'd go to the toilet and come back and forget he told me it before.

safcftm would definitely have been banging on about 'wheeze keys are these' though. You must have edited that bit out
Funny name for a pub ....

I liked it better when he was around. I love the professional wind-up merchants (Red Member - note the inclusion of the word 'professional' in that sentence). I used to love his comments about "you hate me because you can not see beyond the hatred of my team", followed by 20 pages of people biting.

Louder had a particular skill of winding people up too - miss those little run-ins.

We're just left with Red Member now - not knowing his beer from his soft drinks

I think it's inevitable that the forum is repetetive and not very entertaining because as others have said, it totally echoes Arsenal Football Club over the past few years, and a little bit of a shit society which is getting worse year on year. This is a forum for people who have a love of the same thing and that thing is not performing well or being run how many would like it to be run, in hard times. Why would the place be buzzing and full of jokes and laughs?
Having said that, the WUM's are tossers because they drag the place down further, the personal insults go too far and there is no light at the end of the tunnel for Arsenal or the forum. But it IS still the best around!

I've only discovered this forum recently (new job has given me more freetime) and I have enjoyed the good banter, piss taking, humour, heated differences of opinion all from genuine fans.
What I find dull is the posts that are as long as your arm, BORING, I don't want to sit and read an essay. Also, agreeing with others, the Forum reflects The Arsenals current status.

I think it'd be better if Arsenal Chat became completely mental again, like it was before the Basement! General Chat was mint.

I'm not saying it wasn't once good but no-one can defend the recent replacements for IUFGN and Marcangels, too key members that left for better things (who can blame them?) babatunde is an unproven Wind up Merchant and Red Member is too young to be thrown in the deep end. I wasn't US Martin's biggest fan but Babatunde hasn't got anything on him. I can't even remember the last decent tit thread

I'm sure everyone wants the Online Gooner to see its mistakes but it won't, so as frank said :

Online Gooner Forum,
thanks for the memories,
but its time to say goodbye

A forum goes in cycles. It is great for a while then members leave new members arrive and it can go shit for a while.

One real problem we have is it is TOO free and easy on here tbh. Anyone can basically post what they want on any subject. We mods try to keep it readable by locking repeat threads and people then moan like little bitches about over-modding. If we don't lock the repeat threads people then moan like little bitches about too many repeat threads! We can't win.

Another problem that seems to have (partly at least) stemmed from USMARTIN is the growing levels of intolerance of different opinions. Used to be the case that posters respected each others opinions and didn't resort to personal abuse as often.

There is no real answer. If we restrict the amount of posts people are allowed or the length of same we will lose people through frustration. If we ban people because they "annoy" other posters - where do we stop?

Basically, it's just a forum. If you don't like it, leave. Try it again in a few months - it may have cycled around again...

I think Percy, Cockerill's Chin and Augie have summed it up for me.

Cockerill's Chin: "the ability to generate anger or humour is reduced because our club is stale".

Percy: "I think we have simply run out of things to talk about. I am bored of reading about Wenger in/out, bored of hearing about the need for a goalkeeper/centre half/Lionel Messi and bored of polls asking is such and such a legend/wanker/on £7 million a week/could do a job for us in midfield."

Augie: "The amount of venom between posters on this forum can get a bit tiresome tbh"

I think those 3 reasons are why it just isn't the same on here. Things have definitely gone stale at Arsenal, the amount of venom (whether it's USMartin, Baba or the countless WUM remarks by others) have definitely ruined it for me as I can't be arsed with internet warriors (what's the point??)...

but perhaps mainly...

after several years and 8000+ posts (  ) I've just run out of anything new to say! :?

Still, that's life. There's still plenty of decent people on here (Quartz, Sammy, Flash, BG, IHH, DB10 and countless others) and if you try (I know it's hard) to ignore the WUMs and aggression and hope they get themselves banned, then I think this place can still be enjoyable!

(on a final note, I also think it's partly down to having rose tinted glasses of "the past".... all old people do it ( ) - as even back when I joined, there was the odd WUM like Pancho and there was a large falling out or two as well (remember Wayno and Gus cancelling their accounts? and Smoothie disappearing after a catalogue of arguments? - ah, but then again, I wasn't around in the "golden era of 2007" as TS called it, so I guess I'm something of a newcomer myself.! :) )

Anyway, I guess the difference is now the arguments and WUM'ing is tenfold... or more :(

I've not been on here much for various reasons, but one of them is... well, it's gone a bit shit.

It's annoying seeing a vaguely interesting thread locked because an earlier thread from 3 days ago already exists. That never used to happen; duplicate threads were just ignored organically. I don't remember this forum being moderated at all when I first signed up (apart from obvious occasions when certain members dog shagging techniques and phone numbers were exposed)

It's slightly dull that there are no threads which aren't Arsenal related in the top forum... get rid of the basement and lets see some tits and discussion :)

The wind up merchants are annoying; again, due to the lack of diversity in the forum and the lack of duplicate threads, there always seems to be a Red Member, babatunde or US Martin thread in the first page.

It's become a bit of a gay love in - everyone has the same opinion on everything, and those who disagree (ie, any AKBs - not that I am one) are hunted with pitchforks and their opinion totally invalidated.

KingJayson keeps sending my nude pictures of himself. While not strictly the fault of the forum, seeing his shrivelled penis which resembles a "pig in blanket" almost daily is slightly offputting.
