The lack of contempt and spite towards the Heebs from some on here tells me all I need to know about our support these days.
Maybe it is just me but I was always taught to love Arsenal and hate Tottingham!

I'm not sure anyone would disagree with that though, would they? - certainly not me.
But that's not the debate here, is it.
The question is whether you hate Sp*rs so much that you'd rather we were both in the EUROPA league than both in the Champions League! - all so we can have bragging rights, even though finishing 5th and them 6th is a failure for us and normal for them.
If we were talking about Sp*rs winning the league, then this thread might have a point... but personally, if Arsenal being in the CL meant Sp*rs qualified as well, then I'd take that. And I'm still not sure why anyone wouldn't?

Finishing outside the top 4 would not neccessarily achieve anything either and might not provide the wake up call that we are hoping for. Yes, some fans will be angry, but many will still support Wenger and the way the club is being run, same situation as now. Gazidis has already come out and said we couple financially cope with not qualifying for the CL.

I wasn't making it a debate I was just adding a statement.
If you want to get picky the thread is about whether Red Member is a WUM and not whether we finish above Tottingham or not.

That aint coming from me - I was trying to make the point that qualifying for the champs league shouldnt be viewed as all important anymore so it certainly isnt a "prize" that I would be willing to sacrifice almost anything for. That being said I can understand the argument that g88ner and a few others have made that historically we have never been obsessed with them like they have been about us but it was easy to take that stance in the past when they were no real threat to us but now due to the incompetence of wenger and the board we have been dragged back down to a level where they are a very serious threat hence the added importance of the rivalry

pretty impressive that you have kept this thread going for 4 pages and I haven't even posted yet. well done
anyway I stand by the comment that the OP posted which was taken from another thread on here.
There is a good chance that both Spurs and Arsenal may qualify for the CL next season and if Spurs finish above us then yes that would be a disaster but I would far rather we were both in the CL than both in the Europa League.
Now how is that supposed to be a WUM?

What a ridiculous post.
what does it tell you about us then? Are we not proper Arsenal fans like you because we'd rather see the team do well than Tottenham do badly?
Maybe it's just me but I've always beleived you should love your team more than you should hate another. Guess I'm not a real fan

I have just noticed that the OP puts as his location Yorkshire
Hilarious. I bet he really keeps in touch with the north London rivalry up there.

No, it is not a ridiculous post.
I never said in what proportion you should love or hate. You have made that part up to justify your own means.
I never said I wouldn't prefer to see Arsenal do well over Tottingham doing poorly and so that is a daft presumption to make.
So you see, you have made up most of your retort. So whose is the ridiculous post now?
All I was saying is the apathetic nature towards to The Heebs, our fiercest rivals and sworn enemy historically, is indicative of the lack of true loyalty shown by a very large number of our support.
For me, part of loving Arsenal is hating Tottingham as those two things go hand in hand. It is called passion.
Still, as long as the new breed enjoy the catering, match day experience and the new Armoury catalogue hey!

Your post, taken in the context of the thread, seemed to be having a a dig at those of us who'd choose us getting success over Spurs failing. The fact that you'd be having a dig about it would suggest that you took the opposite view point. Yes, I made an assumption but I would hardly call it a daft one. Apologies, if I got it wrong, but that's what it looked like you were getting at.
I don't think people are showing apathy towards Spurs in this thread. I only see people putting more importance in us doing well.
If you're talking about Arsenal fans in general then fair enough. I have noticed particularly since Chelsea came into the money that Arsenal fans have been spreading the hate a bit more, but I wouldn't have said people are now apathetic to Spurs. Certainly myself and my circle of friends hate them as much as ever. I never go to home games anymore so perhaps that's why I haven't noticed so much.
Again, sorry for putting words into your mouth.

No problem! I was probably a bit over the top in my defence.

the fact that we are even having a debate on the subject of Spurs finishing above us shows how far we have fallen.
In the not so distant past this scenario would have been laughed at. Oh and I take issue with the quote from Red Member because if Spurs are finishing above us in ANY tournament it means we are not winning it which is what we should always be aiming to do, otherwise what is the point.
Its like the Chavs or ManYoo saying- "well if we can get to the final this year then even if we are beaten by our bitter rivals it doesnt matter it will be a massive achievement".
Oh and as for my location- we can't all live within 5 minutes of the E*******
