Coventry Protest Turns Sour

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

While the gardai in ireland are backward and alot are power trippers, most of them are fair and the coppers shouldnt get away with shit like this.

I've always thought there should be minimal police at low risk games anyway. Just another cushy number for them.
I will let my Nieces Husband,(who is a Police Officer in Coventry), know that he is corrupt, and unjust!!!
You don't know him yet brand him that way!!!
I hate this fucking stereotyping bullshit!!!
We could all throw those about, but then it wouldn't be "P.C" would it?!!
Thanks for insulting a member of my family without even knowing him!!!

He IS a copper in Coventry, and I don't think it is fair to tar him with the "All Police are *word censored*" type of comment.
He is actually a decent lad,who tries to do his job in a fair,good-natured way.

I don't like generalisations about OB, or any group for that matter.

However, I have never met a helpful, polite, kind copper at football.

Nor have I ever met one as a civ (not a football fan) who has been anything less...

Looked like a gang of thugs to me :?

We don't know how it started, but who cares? doesn't give all those fans the right to get involved and behave like thugs.

I've met loads.

From what we read on here about your trip to Norwich, you were pissed even before you entered the stadium, so I'd suggest if that's the sort of person you are at games, then the police are bound to be against you.

Personally, I've had nothing but good experiences with the police - even as an away fan. But I'm always polite, do what I'm told and never moan.

I'm sure you do get bad eggs, but most are doing their best under difficult circumstances.

For example, going up to Finsbury Park tube, you get stopped by a line of police just before the main road. The abuse they get for doing their job is disgusting, and in 99% of cases they just stand there and take it. Sometimes they react and, when they do, everyone around them starts calling the police *word censored* and it kicks off. It's people looking for trouble, pure and simple - just like the Coventry fans in that clip. They're fucking loving it, and need no encouragement to get involved.

Fair point mate, but tbf Norwich was en exception to the rule; I normally have a beer or two before, but don't get smashed.

And even at Norwich I got hassle from the OB, getting off the train (only a can and a half in so not pissed) they decided to designate Norwich station as an alcohol free zone, took cans off a few of us but not all of us, then put us in an escort and marched us to the pub, then kept us in, completely screwing over those who wanted to check bags in at the station or drink somewhere other than a dive with bar queues seven deep! We had to sneak out in the end by a side door.

But they do all that to minimise trouble between fans, and even though you may not like it, it does make sense.

They're doing it because of past experiences, and you know as well as I do what away fans can be like.

It makes perfect sense to keep the away fans out of the way and under control - and I bet the crime rates have benefited as a result.

It's all part of being an away fan, and there's no point blaming the police - it's not their fault that too many away fans act like thugs! - and you know it happens.

Yeah I see where you're coming from but a) why did they not let people check on bags b) if you're going to do a alcohol free zone do it properly c) seeing as about 40 of us slipped away an ended up in a mixed Arsenal and Norwich pub, with no problems whatsoever, why keep us to the CA before the game!
