How Liverpool get 4 players in the squad is beyond a joke.

Carroll being "in form" recently? Glad he decided to try and justify 50 million in the last 3 games of their season.

Gerarrd can't even play two games in a row anymore, how Carrick is not picked ahead this year is absurd.

Stewart fucking downing? You have to be kidding! 36 games: 0 goals, 0 assists. Yeah, Adam Johnson doesn't get to play but when he does he always looks dangerous and nabs goals.

Glen Johnson? Would anyone really prefer him over Richards?

Can't believe Micah Richards isn't in the squad.

For me, England needed a complete overhaul. We needed to do what the Germans did in the last World Cup and take a whole bunch of unknowns and get rid of all the old underachievers.

Hodgson has picked the same old players Capello picked - so what's the point? Players like Downing underachieve consistently in England shirts and every time they get in the squad.

Gerrard has been made captain - the same Gerrard who has failed consistently in the last few international tourneys.

The squad needed overhauling, albeit with very limited resources in terms of player quality, but it appears we're going to get the same old tripe served up for the last 10 years.

I think that tells you everything about the strength of English players & the Premier League.

As mentioned, there are higher quality players available for picking that play for teams residing higher up the table than Liverpool.

anyone notice Woy fuck up about OX?

He said he played against Ambrosini & Pirlo at the grove and was impressed with how he dealt with them.

Ambrosini didn't play and Pirlo is at Juve.

I would have taken Micah Richards over Jones. Jones will probably be very good one day, but he is still learning and I can see him getting caught out positionally if he plays.

Would have taken Crouch over Defoe. People laugh at Crouch but he gets goals for England.

Downing seems to be included to supply crosses for Carroll, but can think of little else he does.

Gutter for Adam Johnson who is a very good player, if I was him I would look to move to a club where regular first team football is likely.

Would have preferred Ferdinand to Terry, I just cannot stand Terry and I think he will be bad for morale.

So who in place of them would you take of them? (Just interested)

Adam Johnson and Richards over Downing and Glen Johnson for sure. Holt or Crouch before Carroll. Gerarrd inclusion doesn't really surprise me as its his last major tourney attempt.

A predictable, boring squad, but I don't think Roy had much alternative.

However, Downing is a pointless, stupid selection. We've plenty of wide players in the squad and have only taken three recognised centre-backs (not that we've any other good ones available). I would also have preferred Richards to Johnson.

I suspect our best chance will be to stay compact and try to nick the odd goal on the break or from a set-piece. I don't think many teams will be to terrified of this squad.

I don't know enough about the other players Frank.

It doesn't in any way stop it from being a terrible squad. Terrible or less terrible - hobson's choice!

I'm not disagreeing with you, with the exception of Richards perhaps but that's open to debate. Holt and Crouch (who I do agree with you on!) are from teams LOWER then Liverpool.

So you've only suggest 2 players (I'll give you Richards).
I'm just highlighting that the English talent pool isn't what it once was....especially when we have Birmingham City's BACK-UP Gk on a stand-by list.
