don't know what you mean with european cup though

Most teams were pretty much on the same level playing field in 2002 and 2004 in regards to their monetary means, and despite what you say, Wenger should have indeed won the CL with the teams that he had at his disposal pre RA, money didn't come into it then, did it?highburyJD wrote:you think Chelski could have won it without Roman???franksav63 wrote:letting Chelsea be the London's first winners and this isn't down to Roman Abramovich
I doubt they would even be a Prem club
Perhaps you refer to it as "the UEFA Champions league sponsored by fordmastercardheinekenandthatfuckinfrenchtwatplatini"brazilianGOONER wrote:

that kind of thing pisses me off. it took me years to call the 'worthington cup' the 'carling cup' (as it was worthington when it started being broadcasted here for the first few years), and when i finally managed to grab hold of it, it changed again.Chips and Chocolate wrote:Perhaps you refer to it as "the UEFA Champions league sponsored by fordmastercardheinekenandthatfuckinfrenchtwatplatini"brazilianGOONER wrote:

Scroll down to group stage. Pots can still change a bit depending on results from the qualifying rounds.
I'm suggesting they wouldn't have even kept Terry and Lampard with Roman's stolen cash injectionhighburyJD wrote:you think Chelski could have won it without Roman???

and I don't see the relevance of big buys being 'recent'franksav63 wrote:You can't just blame teams that have money, the Chelsea team that won it last season had several players that are at the end of their careers, Mata, Torres were the only recent big money buys in their team.
It's easy for an AKB to blame monetary injections into clubs for Wenger's downfall.
I agree and this has yet to be properly examined.franksav63 wrote:

I must admit, I do enjoy our jousts on this forum, but the fact of the matter is you miss the main point, that being that Wenger, pre RA should have won the CL before RA was even heard of. Let's look at it another way and judge the value of the team that your god, Wenger, managed (at long last) to get to the final in 2006 against the value of the team and players that you have named above, there's a stark difference in the total values of the players, and in fact by my mentioning the 2006 team sort of gives Wenger some credit, so by Wenger getting to the 2006 knocks your gripe about Chelsea's monetary power into a cocked hat, winning the CL is more than just throwing money at it, look at Man City last season who didn't even get to the knock out stage.highburyJD wrote:when I sayI'm suggesting they wouldn't have even kept Terry and Lampard with Roman's stolen cash injectionhighburyJD wrote:you think Chelski could have won it without Roman???

Chelsea team:
Cech can't remember price but he's had loads of big contract renegotiations + we mysteriously failed in all our work permit applications when we were interested
Bosingwa, shit backup RB. cost more than any player in Arsenal history
Luiz, cost more than any player in Arsenal history
Cahill, only cost £7M but on £80k pw (more than RVP)
Cole, our best youth team player in decades - lured by more money
Kalou, rubbish backup forward, cost £9M would have been one of our bigger fee signings. According to the Sun he's earnt over £18M from football so his 2nd contract with Chels signed '09 must have been pretty tasty
Mikel, £16M as much as any player we've bought + huge legal+agent fees. big wages
Lampard, one of the all-time Prem top earners
Bertrand, youth team - cheap
Mata, cost more than any player in Arsenal history
Drogba. cost more than any player in Arsenal history
Subs: Turnbull, free (big wages prob)
Essien, cost more than any player in Arsenal history
Romeu, cheap but Barac have a buy back
Torres, cost more than any player in Arsenal or Prem history
Malouda outbid many other interested parties (£15M?)
Ferreira (outbid many other interested parties (£15M?)
Sturridge free, massive wages outbid all other interested parties
oh and they only got to the final because of Ramires who cost more than any player in Arsenal history
Meireles £12M, Ivanovic £9M, Terry one of the top earners in Prem history
that is a team built with unsustainable crazy money
Thank you AOAC..arseofacrow wrote:I agree and this has yet to be properly examined.franksav63 wrote:
