Olivier Giroud - Another Alan Smith or "Le Chapman"?
Re: Olivier Giroud and Alan Smith
It's weird really.
Depending on whether we believe Wenger had only so much money with which to buy someone, or whether he actually liked the look of Giroud; a one season success in the French first divison, you have to wonder why, if it's the former, didn't he go for someone like Pogrebnyak, who had half a season at Fulham in the EPL and excelled from the off.
You've put him in with some very fine company there though Sid. Depressing is the word.

Re: Olivier Giroud and Alan Smith
I was very frustrated by his total lack of goalscoring capacity today. If you are a striker and you go clean on goal, 1 on 1, you score, simple as that. It's even worse when you know the club has north of £180mil just sitting there and a striker as Llorente going on his last year of contract

Re: Olivier Giroud and Alan Smith
Did anyone at the club tell Inspector Clueless that when he was buying Giroud for £13m Demba Ba had a buy out clause for half of that

BA scored twice today so far
Re: Olivier Giroud and Alan Smith
Yes, Giroud should have scored that.
But I maintain a player like him need a good run of games to find form. A few subs appearences and a start v Coventry isn't this.
He shows so much potential to me.

Re: Olivier Giroud and Alan Smith
A few random stats for you here if I may...
Seems that selling RVP was "great business"!
Arsene spent a combined £24 mil on Podolski and the French Grant Holt...,
Now I hate to say "told you so" but...Oh. I told you so!
Olivia Giroud's misses against Sunderland, Stoke and Chelski - all gilt-edged - have cost Arsenal 5 points in the league.
By contrast, Robin Van Persie's goals have won Man United 5 points from matches they deserved nothing from. A 5 point swing.
Steven Fletcher of Sunderland, who cost the same as Giroud, and moved late to Sunderland, now has more league goals than Giroud, Podolski and Chamakh combined. Of course though, Arsene is starved of funds
Demba Ba, whose release clause is half the price of a Giroud, has more league goals than Arsenal's three strikers put together.
Ricky Lambert of Southampton, also has more league goals than the entire Arsenal front three put together. How fucking humiliating for a manager that flogged RVP to Man United.
Luis Suarez, who is pilloried for his finishing and is playing for the worst Liverpool team, has more league goals than Arsenal's three strikers put together.
Have I mentioned Robin Van Persie yet?
The only way Wenger could ever be forgiven for selling RVP to them, is if the replacements are storming it.
Podolski to be fair isn't a bad player but Giroud....I watched this gimp play at Montpellier and I laughed when we signed him. Just as I laughed at the fee paid for Gervinho!
At least Arsene is pumping Arsenal cash back into French football and we can really see the benefits, with Koscielny's outstanding performance today, another Diaby injury and now the French joker who makes Christopher Wreh look like Pele.
Fucking ridiculous manager Arsenal have. That wouldn't be tolerated or forgiven, anywhere else but this sorry club.

But have to say even though Giroud doesn't impress me I doubt it helps that he played an average of 20 minutes per game over the last three in the PL.
Re: Olivier Giroud and Alan Smith
To those claiming Giroud needs "time" (just as Vela did eh?), I ask:
What has missing a sitter from two yards out got to do with "a run of games"
What has failing to spot a totally unmarked team mate in the clear, got to do with "a run of games"?
What has rounding the keeper and not even hitting the target of a gaping empty net, got to do with "adaptation"?
What has failing to hit the target from two yards out at Anfield got to do with "a run of games"?
How deluded is this line of logic? Especially when a striker, paid to score goals cannot hit a barn door from a few yards out!!!
Of course though, if Giroyd keeps going on like this all season he definitely won't be a flop. Will he? He will "need a season to adapt", just as Park "never had a run of games", and just as Gervinho "needed time to adapt".
(because over summer Gervinho was finally gonna learn a first touch, how to stay onside, how to cross a ball etc)

Re: Olivier Giroud and Alan Smith
Baba, is that the same RvP who has played in the PL for 6 years?
"YES! I TOLD YOU SO! A PLAYER WHO HAS PLAYED IN THE PL FOR 6 YEARS IN BETTER THAN A PLAYER WHO PLAYED 6 GAMES!! i AM RIGHT! FACT!"
Spent most of his time as a sub aswell. He needs regular starts and I'd rather take a punt on him than the forehead or, god forbid, Ramsey in attack.
Also, when the papers and "experts" like you already right the lad off as a flop, your confidence will take a knock.

Re: Olivier Giroud and Alan Smith
Oh I agree. Maybe in 6 years, Giroud might learn to finish into an empty net. Or at very least, hit the target!DarylAFC wrote:Baba, is that the same RvP who has played in the PL for 6 years?![]()

Giroud's miss today was bad but not gilt edged

Rvp is not our concern now. Rather like saying that A N Other striker scored for N E Other team and they won the points today when they should not have

Check the end season stats. Also, how can Chamakh score from the dressing room?
Demba Ba, whose release clause is half the price of a Giroud, has more league goals than Arsenal's three strikers put together.
Cos Ba is world class?![]()

Ricky Lambert, tomorrow's forgotten man. How many has he scored in a CL game?
Luis Suarez, who is pilloried for his finishing and is playing for the worst Liverpool team, has more league goals than Arsenal's three strikers put together.
Of course, you were championing him before today's winning display at NORWICH.![]()

Have I mentioned Robin Van Persie yet?
Yes you have. He plays for another team. Had he stayed and got a permanent injury, you would have been the first to condemn the manager for keeping him. I mean, you want it both ways.
The only way Wenger could ever be forgiven for selling RVP to them, is if the replacements are storming it.

Can't argue with that.

Re: Olivier Giroud and Alan Smith
Fact is, you know nothing. I know nothing. No one knows anything. He could be a flop. He could be terrible. But he could also be a future legend. You seem to want him to fail, because then you'll be right. I want him to succeed because it will be good for the club.Babatunde wrote:Oh I agree. Basically, give him time. Not a handful of sub appearences and a couple of starts.

Rather like Messi missing a pen I suppose?![]()
What has failing to spot a totally unmarked team mate in the clear, got to do with "a run of games"?
His shot was a better option imo, or did you want to moan about Ramsey being gifted a pass to shoot wide? If that was at all possible !!!
What has rounding the keeper and not even hitting the target of a gaping empty net, got to do with "adaptation"?
But, according to you, the guy cannot hit a barn door with a banjo. What did YOU expect?
What has failing to hit the target from two yards out at Anfield got to do with "a run of games"?
Nothing. Your point is?
How deluded is this line of logic? Especially when a striker, paid to score goals cannot hit a barn door from a few yards out!!! What? Even when he aimed for row Z today, he netted.
