Arshavin`s goals for Arsenal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYTY50P6Wn0 I had forgotten how sublime some of them are. And 90% from a left wing position. "Played out of position"...Don`t think so!

Played out of position or not, it always seemed to me like if it was happening for Arshavin then great but if it wasn't then he would quite contently just pick up his wage and not put the hours in in training to turn it round. The bloke gave up on his career before he hit 30.

This ^. 8)

Augie, truly great players like Bergkamp EARN the right to play. It’s about the whole package, not just their skill OR their mental/physical strength – it’s a combination of all those things that make truly great players great.

DB10 was tough as fuck, and a hard hard worker. He could take it and he could dish it out. Many people gloss over DB10 a bit as he is God (yes, he actually is God) but he could be a seriously dirty fucker on the pitch. He needed to be. I remember Hansen on MOTD counting how many times DB10 got kicked elbowed and basically fouled in one game and it was something ridiculous like 30+ times, but DB10 never slacked off.

Arshavings had talent and great technical ability deffo but not near the same level as DB10 for that. And Arshavings was totally lacking in character, mental strength, drive, and hunger (apart from when happily seated at KFC). The man had no grit.

Are you saying that great players have to earn the right to play in their proper positions ? I keep pointing to the fact that arshavin was played out of position and of that there is no doubt but the anti arshavin crew are dodging the "what if Bergkamp was played on the wing" question even though it is a reasonable question. I will concede that he really has showed a lack of determination and backbone but I will not concede that he was played frequently played in his rightful position cos that is clearly incorrect. Was it this season that he played in the No.10 position for the first time in a long time and wenger raved after the game about how good he played in that position ? Simple fact is that he had the ability to be a great player for us but constantly being played out of his position affected his performances and attitude to the point that he has become lazy, fat and uninterested but the being played out of position issue came first
Obviously not saying that. But I think you knew that and are being a bit of a picky bald crunt - nothing new there!!

No, I was ONLY addressing your comparison of AA23 to DB10. Your point was he could have been as good as DB10. Mine is that he couldn't, because he only had skill, he was/is lacking the character and the drive to be a truly great player. The truly great players get kicked. Look at Messi. Kicked to fuck every game, but he is hard as nails and gets on with it. They earn the right to play the flair part of their game. DB10 had that extra bit of grit in his character that AA23 obviously doesn't have.

As far as AA23 being played out of position, that's a seperate issue for me. I don't believe a top player can go from brilliant in one position to totally inneffectively shit in another position unless they are not a top player. He went from his favoured position as the 10 to a position out wide that he WAS familiar with but didn't like. It wasn't like he was asked to play at left back ffs! A top player should be able to deliver some good in a position he isn't familiar with - obviously not his best stuff, but SOME good. I agree Wenger didn't get the best out of him out wide but the level of shitness AA23 displayed most games in that position is down to his attitude and lack of grit.

Jaw dropping news - Arshavin probably going to leave Arsenal at the end of the season

Next we'll be hearing "Diaby may well get injured again in his career", or "Gervinho can be a little wasteful at times"

I've hardly ever been more angry watching a player when it comes to Andrei Arshavin. It's massive shame because I was behaving like a small child when we signed him and the months that followed he was fantastic.

Realising how lazy and unfit he was, I wanted him out of the team, many gooners were a bit slow to hold him accountable, but he must have but in some of the worst performances by an Arsenal player in recent years.

I'll always remember him as the man that pointed to other players to pass to so that he didn't have to run anymore.

Could have been a contender for sure, but didn't want it enough.

the start of his downfall for me was when he was left on the bench for the chavs game in the fa cup semi final. Ive never really got my head around that decision

I think Wenger's (expressed) rationale for leaving him on the bench against Chelsea was to show the others that they could beat United without him as he was cup-tied.

Well done on both counts

Yep and Andrei was cup tied from the CL match, so it should have been an obvious decision to play him in the FA Cup match as he was in form and it rested another player to play in the CL game, but no, Wenker knows :banghead:
