The ticket is not valid for ICE/IC trains (intercity trains).

Quite a few of us gooners staying in Dusseldorf I think - should be a great atmosphere, can't waitChips and Chocolate wrote:Danke!arseofacrow wrote:If train travel is included on the ticket this time round, then yes it is - they are both in the same transport zone.Chips and Chocolate wrote:Travel, accomodation and tickets sorted! Re: Dortmund away - travel
I think there are quite a few Arsenal fans taking the train as when I rang to book mine today the woman said this journey was popular. If they also only have 20 mins to change in Brussels like me there could be a mass of people running between platforms.
I am glad I managed to get a ticket, I wasn't sure if it would get down to 5+ credits, last time it was the first game of the group stages so less time for people to arrange travel, but as I waited my hotel is by the airport rather than in the centre of Dortmund.

Re: Dortmund away - travel
First European trip for me and my mate and by the sound of things have picked a good one - we are on the first train out of Ashford international to Brussels (7.28 am coach 15)on the morning of the 6th then 10.25 to Cologne and staying in Bochum as virtually all the reasonably priced hotels in Dortmund were fully booked - Quick question I see that match tickets include regional train travel so would that cover us from Bochum?
Also fair play to the gooners going by coach via the travel club as there is no way I could face that amount of time stuck on a coach.

We've got no reserved seats, worked out cheaper
Re: Dortmund away - travel
Be warned some Euro trains are reservation compulsory, so either you might get turfed off or more likely they will charge you the reservation fee even if you don't have a seat.Chips and Chocolate wrote:We've got no reserved seats, worked out cheaper
Re: Dortmund away - travel
When I booked mine I was told I had to pay for a seat reservation on ICE, they charged me €8 return. If it is not an express train I don't think you need to book a seat as I don't have one from Cologne to Dortmund on a RE train.Chippy wrote:Be warned some Euro trains are reservation compulsory, so either you might get turfed off or more likely they will charge you the reservation fee even if you don't have a seat.Chips and Chocolate wrote:We've got no reserved seats, worked out cheaper

Just a bit of advice to clear things up:_James_ wrote:When I booked mine I was told I had to pay for a seat reservation on ICE, they charged me €8 return. The RE trains don't do reservations at all.
The Brussels - Cologne ICE trains are rarely, if ever, compulsory reservation. Reservation may be recommended, which may be the case around this game. One thing: The reservations are marked on a electronic display above seats - they will either be marked with the journey "Brussels-Cologne" the seat is reserved or nothing at all, meaning the seat is free.
However, it could also say something like "ggf freigeben", which means that the seat may be reserved and you have to give it up if someone comes along and tells you they have reserved the seat

And you know what the Germans are like with seats, chairs, etc...

Re: Dortmund away - travel
Had the same two years ago. I was given the choice between a reserved seat or not at the time of booking (a difference of €8), I don't really care if I have to stand in the aisle as it's not a very long journey (and plenty of beer to numb the legs)

Re: Dortmund away - travel
Flying to Eindhoven for £120 quid return only to see they've now put more flights on for 30 quid return! Pissed off
Re: Dortmund away - travel
Anyone that's done this for under £200 so far (including the £40 ticket in that) has done pretty well IMO. The free trains on the Wednesday are handy in keeping the price down a bit though

There will be eight of us on the 8.58 Eurostar from St Pancras, 5th November. Change at Brussels for the 1.28pm to Cologne, then we're just going to jump a local train from Cologne to Dusseldorf, it's not far so shouldn't be expensive. The Eurostar out on 5th, back on 7th cost £117 per person including the connection from Brussels to Cologne.
