i can kind of see Augies point, too many small midfielders unbalancing the squad but Caz is the wrong target - i'd sell arteta, rosicky and wilshire before him.

bearing in mind we also have OX who is isn't performing and the jury is still out on walcott then we have a underperfoming midfield heavy squad.

arteta and rosicky are out due to age, and Jack is out due to attitude - he hasn't learned from his mistakes, he's still out at 3am drinking in nightclubs, and he still doesn't score enough goals (or hardly any).

after 9 years without a title, no more passengers, no more pandering - we didn't carry anyone in 1998, 2002 or 2004.

I see no reason why we can't rotate the center and play Caz and Ozil together in a 4-3-2-1 with Giroud the spear and Ramsey & Flamini behind them, plus one other.

right now that plus one is not wilshire, ox or wally - someone who can score goals and track back, and of course we have little or no coverage at CB, and our LB and RB can't cross - so given we are weak in at least three positions, selling Caz isn't the answer unless the sale brings in a truly world class up and down midfielder ronaldo, ribery, robben or perhaps a swap for Cesc.

Maybe they're not physically tough enough for good ol' augsie.

Sell Cazorla - pure madness.

Flamoney is not physical enough and I absolutely believe that - I accept that he flies around the place but that and putting in reckless tackles does not make him powerful enough. A player like PV4, roy keane (scumbag  ) and even nigel de jong would walk all over flamoney in the physical power battles.

You cant say that it doesnt matter what league those different combinations play in - a trio of larry, mo and curly might work in the scottish league but would be laffed at elsewhere. Yes that is a blatent exageration but I have seen/read many comments by people just like you and me, who have question whether messi (the best player in the world) would be a success in the english league precisely because it is more physical. I would suggest that playing for barca against the likes of getafe would be the equivalent of playing in celtic's midfield again the likes of st mirren so the 2 horse race argument does have some merit imo.

Anyway clearly from the comments on here, it seems that my suggestion, is way wrong and everybody else is right so I will concede and step back from this discussion - I am content that at least clockender and northbank would see why I would make the suggestion.

Btw quartz, when someone makes the statement "case closed" it suggest a finality that he has proven my suggestion wrong and there is no more debate needed - maybe it wasnt intended as arrogance but telling me that I am reading it wrong and then warning me for doing so is ridiculous

And I'm totally ok with that - what frustrates me is that it seems most people are focusing on the headline and not the substance of my suggestion. I never dissed cazorla cos I honestly believe that he is real quality (2nd best player we have imo) but I don't see the sense in having 2 top quality players in one position with no top quality player in other positions most notably striker (although the keeper and defensive midfield spots also applies)

To be fair if someone were to come in with a bid of 35 million quid for Jack I'd bite their boll0cks off for it.

I have heard many discussions about 'who plays in midfield when everyone is fit?', and plenty of hand wringing and wailing about who goes where, but my viewpoint is that you can never have too many good players.

Someone will always be injured, or suspended, or just in need of a rest.

Add this to the list of ridiculous threads.

I get your point (even though you made it so baaaaaaaadly! :wink: ). But I would counter with 2 things;

1. We have been whining on here like bitches for years that we don't have quality in depth. Now, in attacking midfield at least, we really do. Finally! 8) Ozil will tire as the PL goes on, the game in Ingerland is much faster and more physically demanding than in Spain. He won't keep up a top level of performance for his whole first PL season I reckon. Having Cazorla there as an option means we can rest Ozil for some games.

2. Even if we were to sell Cazorla, do you honestly believe Arsene would take that money and invest in a top quality striker/Keeper/DM (delete as applicable)?? :|

DB's second point is a very good one - I wouldn't be surprised to see the replacement as another small midfielder.

Despite a couple of recent good buys, the squad is still poor IMHO and I don't trust wenger to fix that.

We need another clear out - but to have 3/4/5 targets available and willing to sign. Ozil was a great signing and does make us a better 11 but does little for the squad.

I've not read the whole thread as I'm elbow deep in Public (English and Welsh ''Constitutional'') Law and I'm enjoying a nice Sauvignon Blanc :P but I will say this -

I'd rather sell my left bollock than sell Santi.

Or Jack. Sell Jack, the overrated tart.
