Goodbye to the Boleyn

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

It was awful. Scripted and yet seemed unscripted. Bianca Westwood from Sky normally reports on Dagenham or Orient, would have been better to have Bianca from Eastenders.. Did I miss a mention of Sir Geoff Hurst?? Or Julian Dicks?
As for the Cockney Rejects, embarrassing to say the least.
:D Agree with you both. It was dreadful. Started badly and deteriorated from there.

Dicks was at the match but I didnt hear them call his name. And I was also surprised not to hear Geoff Hurst get a mention, especially when you consider Stewart Robson was there (announced to a somewhat muted receptioni thought).

And as much as I regret us leaving Highbury, Arsenal did arrange a pretty good ceremony on the last day and I appreciate it even more after witnessing that woeful effort tonight. Sadly it was probably the last thing Arsenal will ever do that had that touch of class.

Cannot understand the high profile given to that lot moving grounds at the London Taxpayers cost....Fucking unbelievable

Club statement says they have "extraordinary fans" fuck knows what Bobby Moore would have thought of that low life scum

They're just cheeky cockney's havin' a larf mate. High jinks thats all. A good old fashioned knees up round the piano! Lovable rogues the lot of 'em. If they're not selling fruit or flowers down the market, then they're helping little old ladies across the road. Or popping into each others houses borrowing sugar. Its one big family. Everyone's welcome, you don't even have to lock your front door.

Because I'm from south London, I actually have a few mates that support Millwall. I'm not gonna pretend the Millwall fans are angels, they're not. But theirs and West Ham's fans are very similar. Yet the media portrays them both in a very different way. Its ridiculous.

Cannot believe the behaviour of some of their fans in spoiling the evening.

The usual bollocks about best fans in the world, fantastic atmosphere, went several times in 80s, both as an away fan with Arsenal and with West Ham mates for other games occasionally and it was nothing special, it could be noisy at times but nt different to anywhere else, certainly not worthy of the wankfest that it has received over the last few months.

My first impression on my first visit (a 2-1 win to us in Dec 81) was how small and shitty it was compared to Highbury, have been a couple of times in the last 10 or so years and as others have mentioned its certainly not as dangerous a walk from the station as it used to be.

As for the farewell party, what a fucking embarrassment , I mean these things are never any good to people with real memories, but that screeching bird just summed it all up. I thought at least the Cockney Rejects called have played "War on the terraces" to honour some of West Ham's only actual achievements

Yes agree with that, what gets my goat is that Arsenal fans protesting getting arrested for a perfectly lawful protest and these shits causing a major public disorder and old bill cannot nick one of them???? WTF????

Remember back in 80s when that scum caused a whole lot of trouble and a murder, and fucking Arsenal got arrested???

All the mob who should be banged up got away with it....so many Arsenal been arrested over the years never to come back...

where is the logic in it....are they trying to stop the game before it starts??? just to ruin there clubs own event

are opposing teams not allowed there then....absolutely crazy....should be hundreds of arrests and life bans

Kind of disagree about soulless bowl. The emirates has a cracking atmosphere on a big match night, just we haven't had much to cheer in the last 10 years,

The main reason for the poor atmosphere in the emirates is our middle class fan base, plus the corporates of course. You are just as likely to see these sorts at Lords or Wimbledon as our gaff.

One thing Worst Ham have done is priced sensibly. They have sold season tickets for as little as £99 a pop, their hardcore fan base will remain rather than get priced out like our working class fans have.

Have to agree. I hate the Bowl and everything it stands for, but I've been to Benfica's ground which is almost identical except for the fans (as opposed to customers) that populate it and the atmosphere they create which couldn't be more different.

I go to Lord's a lot. Does that make me one of them?
