i understand what Gallas was gonig through
he's a winner not a loser (despite us only drawing)
he knew it wasn't a penalty & his reaction may not be as what some people call acceptable but you would feel that way blowing points in a important game in the race for something you crave
maybe him sitting in the middle of the pitch after the game had finished saying that he wouldn't move & shite wasn't a good idea but the man wants Arsenal to do well now & as a leader he will blow over with the pressure he & the team are going through & that game seeing your team mate breaking his leg (an important one at this stage) is gonig to piss you off & it didn't help with the ref giving away the pen in the last min which i thought wasn't a pen but you do only get to look through these things once
Your a disgrace Gallas

Yes Khalid there were factors that were out of the ordinary about yesterday, but the job of being the Arsenal captain is to hold it together, that's the difference between the captaincy and being a mere player. Gallas, for a player of his age and experience, fell well below that at the end of the game yesterday.khalid_red wrote:I've posted this on another thread already but this is about Gallas too so I'll post here as well
After watching the highlights in greater detail on TV, I won't condemn Gallas at all. He is a human being. I think the emotions have been building up for him.
1) Ade and Nik spat at WHL and the embarrassing thrashing
2) Sagna's brother dies and Arsenal don't show up for the Man Utd match
Birmingham match was the last straw for him
1) Eduardo's painful leg break
2) The free-kick was not a free-kick as Gallas himself shielded the ball while McFadden stumbled onto Flamini
3) Ade doesn't pass to Nik which echoes the WHL incident
4) Clichy falls asleep but then fairly wins the ball back but a penalty is given nevertheless
I know some people will say that I am just defending him at any costs and clutching at straws. But I believe that his inability to do anything about these situations had hurt him a lot. If all of our team had the same spirit as Gallas, we'd be a better team. I am 100% behind Gallas who is our proper captain.
And I can quite honestly say that with all of yesterday's occurences, I don't honestly think that Adams, Vieira, Sansom, Rice, McLintock or Alan Ball would have behaved like that.
To me Gallas has been a great captain this season. He has brought this young team together and lead us to the top of the league(Dont forget we are still 3pts clear)
I want a captain who is angry and upset like the fans were when we drop two crucial points in the last minute.I dont what him to be smiling. There is no such thing as a good loser just a loser.

That's just American bollocks speech. There is no such thing as a good loser just a loser
There is such a thing as losing (or in our case yesterday - not winning) with grace, you also have to take the bigger picture into account.
As Hansen said last night - why gift the psychological edge to Fergie in such a manner.
That's called small measures in order to prevent defeat in the weeks to come.
And as for this 'who remembers the guy who didn't win' nonsense - do note that the film Rocky I is not called Apollo Creed is it?

I think the psychological edge to red nose argument is nonsense. The only question would have been how Gallas's reaction would have go down with the rest of the players. The only question would have been how the players behaved, what they did, the next time they came to train. It doesnt matter what sort of captain red nose or the fans think Gallas is, as long the the players love and respect him. We will just have to wait and see how we play next Saturday to know that.

What does that have to do with anything? lol. Im not encouraging what Gallas did, however I fail to see how that would give a psychological edge to red nose. If anything it could hamper our performance and we will have to wait and see if that happens.Cus Geezer wrote:Well again, lets go back to the work example. It doesnt matter what sort of captain red nose or the fans think Gallas is, as long the the players love and respect him
How much would you respect the line manager or supervisor who behaved in that manner.

NO-ONE IS DISPUTING THAT, BUT IT DOESN'T EXCUSE HIS REACTION - ESPECIALLY SO SOON AFTER GETTING AWAY WITH THE NANI KICKING INCIDENT AND THE AFTERMATH OF THE MAN UTD DEFEAT, AFTER WHICH WE WERE PORTRAYED AS PETULANT AND BAD LOSERS.donaldo wrote:To me Gallas has been a great captain this season. He has brought this young team together and lead us to the top of the league(Dont forget we are still 3pts clear)...

THERE IS A VERY LONG DISTANCE BETWEEN THOSE TWO REACTIONS AND BOTH COULD BE CONSIDERED EXTREME. YOU CAN CARE AND BE ANGRY AND UPSET WITHOUT REACTING THE WAY GALLAS DID IN SUCH A PUBLIC WAY.donaldo wrote:..I want a captain who is angry and upset like the fans were when we drop two crucial points in the last minute.I dont what him to be smiling..
SORRY, BUT THAT'S NONSENSE AND JUST AN EASY CLICHE TO PARROT IN THIS 'WIN AT ALL COSTS' ERA.donaldo wrote:..There is no such thing as a good loser just a loser.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. Whether he expressed his emotions rightly or wrongly he cares about the club and wants to win...we need players like him and we need to get behind him as our captain.DB10GOONER wrote:
As for Gallas, I thought his attitude was unprofessional but understandable, given what had unfolded in that game. He is only human. I think Wenger will let him cool down and then take him aside and talk to him.
The really annoying thing about yesterday is the f*cking media will now start the whole "Arsenal - club in crisis" {(c) The Sun} shite now...
its not been any easy time recently for players or fans and no one will be more upset by the recent goings on than Gallas himself.....Especially his performance in the Cup. Gallas is the right man to be captain...no one questioned him when he popped up with vital goals against man u etc!!
