Yes it makes sense, but even Sam Allardyce could figure out that the man to get attacking the ball would be Senderos, so he can be pulled up and turned and left unable to get back due to his lack of pace. From what I see watching games, more teams will try to exploit this with Phil in the side by playing the ball down our left so he has to come up to challenge. When he isn't in the team it is more evenly spread between right and left.burns718 wrote: from wat i can see arsenal play their defence the same way i did at my last club, one of the cb's (senderos) allways attcks the ball, the other cb sits back an acts as a sweeper, with the full back who is not on the side of the pitch that the ball is on doubleing up as the other cb and the winger siting at fullback. hope thats clear. with this system it is very hard to not get sucked in to the ball ala senderos, and is also exremely hard to get into its rythem on 1 1 game at a time basis.
does that make any sense
team for rest of season
Why would you need to catch a quick striker if he is coming straight at you? If one is sweeping up won't he be facing the striker head on almost and then the quickness would become irrelevant? He would simply need the defensive capability to excucte a tackle and if his reading was any good he'd be anticipating where the striker would be coming from.

What's the saying?..the first couple of yards are played in the head?Number 5 wrote:Why would you need to catch a quick striker if he is coming straight at you? - Pace is fine, but Adams, Maldini, Terry, etc had/have the intelligence and experience to cope with any type of striker and situation.
Toure may look like an all-action centre back, but in reality its only because he's usually out of position in the first place.
So yes Number 5, I agree....you don't need pace to play sweeper...but on the other hand, as in any position, it sure helps
